Drive
Silence Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I still remember
your hands against the wheel
The burning rubber
The melting steel
The twilight veil on your face,
dreamlike and unreal
The moonlit highway
paved with stardust
The steamy windows
covered with lust
I'd do it all again
and so would you,
I trust

Let's take a ride, love
The night is still young
We could drive straight to
oblivion
and make really happy
all the slanderous tongues

Take me all the way
'til we rise above
the dreary fields of hate,
the winding streets of love

'Til we rise above

Grab the steering wheel
My heart is yours to steal

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Silence's song "Drive" paint an evocative picture of two lovers on the open road. The first verse sets the scene with vivid images of burning rubber, melting steel, and a dreamlike twilight. The moonlit highway is "paved with stardust" and the car's steamy windows are "covered with lust." The singer reflects on this scene, saying "I'd do it all again and so would you, I trust." This suggests that the intensity of the moment was mutual and left a lasting impression on both parties.

The second verse continues this journey, inviting the lover to take a ride and drive straight into oblivion. The singer acknowledges the potential for gossip and scandal ("slanderous tongues") but seems unconcerned with societal expectations. Instead, the goal is to rise above the "dreary fields of hate" and "winding streets of love." This line suggests a desire to transcend the games and power dynamics often present in romantic relationships and reach a higher plane of connection.

In the final lines of the song, the singer urges their lover to grab the steering wheel and take control. They offer their heart freely, ready to be stolen and consumed by the intensity of the moment. The song as a whole represents a visceral and passionate experience of love, one where the only rule is to surrender to the moment and let the road take you where it may.

I cannot describe how happy I am.
“Love is Worth it” is one of my favorite records and I was always hoping they release something again.
Love it.

@ryancooper3863

Absolutely the fucking same here!

I was just reminiscing about video game music back in the day and I brought these guys up. For years I'd check back with them and see if there was anything new and it was like the internet didn't know they existed. Then I realize they have new music in 2022¿

@BelairPedicab

I'm literally in tears right now. It's been 18 yrs since Love Is Worth It, and every second of wait was worth it for this. It's been several lifetimes since I saw them at Club Crannell in Poughkeepsie, NY, and Rob Sampona badgered them into playing boyfriend notes.

I'm glad this band still exists. And can't wait to spin the whole new album.....
