On stage, Silent Runners aims to blow its audience away with a show that is both compelling and strangely hypnotizing. Minimalist guitars, deep post punk bass riffs and compelling drum beats, going from an almost krautrock-like drive to all-out bombastic. All topped with classic synths and a powerful voice, soaked in reverb.
In the first years of its existence, the group of five has already left quite an impression. The band started its career with a steady rise, playing both Paradiso and Melkweg Amsterdam. A show at the Portuguese Entremuralhas Festival 2016 was praised as one of the best openers of the festival ever, and confirmed the band's international potential. Silent Runners is also booked for the biggest wave festival of the world in 2018: Wave Gotik Treffen.

Silent Runners Lyrics

Pluck and scrape until we’re clean
We wouldn’t know what we’re gonna miss
We look for sights too far to see
Find our place and let it be
Nothing ever really came from this
Ever wonder who you are?
Never do, it ain’t productive
Throw away your doubt and fears
Keep your open mind at ease
Nothing ever really came from this
Wilderness
I am human after all
And only one can’t make a difference
Nothing ever really came from this
I knew what I was after
Thought I knew what I was after
But I don’t care for this
No I don’t care for this
And I’m all over this
I'm all over this
The lyrics of Silent Runners' song Wilderness capture a sense of disillusionment and existential questioning. The opening lines, "We don’t need another dream, pluck and scrape until we’re clean," suggest a weariness with the pursuit of goals and a recognition that striving for them can leave one feeling depleted. The following lines, "We wouldn’t know what we’re gonna miss, we look for sights too far to see, find our place and let it be," seem to encourage a more grounded approach, advising listeners to appreciate what is in front of them rather than chasing after something unattainable. The lyric "nothing ever really came from this" is repeated throughout the song, perhaps indicating a sense of frustration with the futility of certain endeavors.
The chorus, "Wilderness, I am human after all, and only one can’t make a difference, nothing ever really came from this," seems to suggest that even as individuals we are all small and insignificant in the grand scheme of things, and that it can be difficult to influence the world around us. The verses that follow continue to encourage the listener to let go of doubts and fears and to keep an open mind.
Overall, the lyrics of Wilderness speak to the human experience of seeking meaning and purpose in life, and the recognition that sometimes these pursuits can lead to disappointment and disillusionment.
