I Wonder
Silk Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

[Repeat: x4]
Ooo heya heya heya ooo

Sneaking in and out
Every day, any place
Getting it on
Sometimes we're even bold enought
To do it in your own home
Now what the hell am I thinking 'bout
I know damn well what goes around comes around
Then I turn around and we on the ground
Tell me, what am I supposed to do

I wonder if he knows and suspects that I have got you on me
I wonder if he knows that we get a little freaky
I wonder if he knows that you spent last night bumping and grinding
Oh so careful we must be

I know I've tried to let you go
But my mind keeps telling me no
But I don't want to lose you
Even though you're not mine
But I try my best
And baby that's enough for me

I wonder if he knows and suspects that I have got you on me
I wonder if he knows that we get a little freaky
I wonder if he knows that you spent last night bumping and grinding
Oh so careful we must be

[Repeat: x2]
Heya heya heya ooo

What am I supposed to do when he comes around and asks about you?

I wonder if he knows and suspects that I have got you on me
I wonder if he knows that we get a little freaky
I wonder if he knows that you spent last night bumping and grinding
Oh so careful we must be

I wonder if he knows and suspects that I have got you on me
I wonder if he knows that we get a little freaky

I wonder if he knows that you spent last night bumping and grinding
Oh so careful we must be

Overall Meaning

The Silk hit song "I Wonder" tells the story of a woman who is involved in a secret affair with a man who is not her partner. The repetitious chorus with the phrase "I wonder if he knows" reflects the constant worries and doubts that the lyrics’ protagonist has about her cheating. The song paints a picture of a woman who is struggling to keep her physical relationship with this man a secret from the guy she is meant to be with. Hence, she wonders if her partner knows that she is being unfaithful, spending nights with this other man and being physically intimate.

The song's lyrics highlight the moral conflicts that the singer experiences. She recognizes that what goes around comes around, yet she continues to be unfaithful. Furthermore, although she has attempted to end the affair before, her feelings for this other man keep pulling her back. The line “But my mind keeps telling me no” signifies that she is aware of the wrong she is committing, but her emotions are taking control of her actions. When the singer questions, "Oh so careful we must be", it signifies that the couple is being cautious not to leave any evidence of their affair.
