The duo has collaborated with a diverse range of artists, including Dua Lipa, Daniel Merriweather, Mapei, GoldLink, Ellie Goulding, and Desiigner.

In August 2017, Diplo mentioned that he and Mark Ronson were working on a collaborative disco album, hinting at the project that would eventually become Silk City. While further details about the project remain undisclosed, the duo's representatives have been approached for additional information by media outlets.

The name "Silk City" appears to be a tribute to the Philadelphia venue and diner where Diplo began his DJ career. The duo had their first live performance at Governors Ball music festival. This festival also featured Jack White, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Eminem, N.E.R.D, and Travis Scott.

Both Diplo and Mark Ronson have had successful careers in their respective music ventures. Diplo, in addition to his work as a solo artist, is known for his involvement in the electronic dance music trio Major Lazer. Ronson has established himself as a DJ, songwriter, and record producer, and has collaborated with numerous acclaimed musicians throughout his career, including Kevin Parker from Tame Impala.

Silk City was officially announced on January 2, 2018, by Diplo and Mark Ronson, two highly acclaimed figures in the music industry. Their debut single, "Only Can Get Better," featuring Daniel Merriweather, was released on May 25, 2018, marking the beginning of their musical journey as a duo. Shortly after, on July 20, 2018, they released their second single, "Feel About You," featuring Mapei. This was followed by their third single, "Loud," which saw Diplo reunite with previous collaborators GoldLink and Desiigner.

The duo's fourth single, "Electricity," was released on September 6, 2018, featuring the prominent British singer and songwriter Dua Lipa. The accompanying music video was also unveiled on the same day, further enhancing the reach of their music.

On January 22, 2021, Silk City released their single "New Love," featuring British singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding, further expanding their catalog of collaborations with acclaimed artists.
