In Silly’s song Vollmond, the first verse starts with a description of a meadow in the light of a full moon. The imagery is powerful as the meadow is described to look like it’s covered in snow. The lyrics then suggest that a secret meeting took place on this night with no witnesses but the people involved, the singer and the person they are addressing in the song. The lyrics in the second verse convey a sense of intense connection between these two people compared to two rockets hurtling towards each other, coming together and ultimately burning out. The lyrics then suggest that this type of connection can only happen once every hundred thousand years.
The last verse suggests that the meeting took place in the early hours of the morning when the sun is about to rise. The imagery is once again captivating, as the dew on the skin and hair of the people meeting and the morning mist that surrounds them suggests intimacy and secrecy. The lyrics then pose a hypothetical question: “what if their partners were to find them lying there together?” This line brings in a sense of guilt and uncertainty as to whether the meeting was the right thing to do, but ultimately the song ends with the same theme of intense longing and desire.
