Ei, ei, ei, ei
Oô, oô, oô, oô, oô, oô, o
Quando você chegar
Quando você chegar
Numa nova estação
Te espero no verão
Salve, Salvador
Me bato, me quebro tudo por amor
Eu sou do Pelô
O negro é raça é fruto do amor
Salve, Salvador
Me bato, me quebro tudo por amor
Eu sou do Pelô
Ae, ae, ae, ae
Ei, ei, ei, ei
Oô, oô, oô, oô, oô, oô, o
Ae, ae, ae, ae
Ei, ei, ei, ei
Oô, oô, oo
Já pintou verão
Calor no coração
A festa vai começar
Salvador se agita
Numa só alegria
Eternos Dodô e Osmar
Na avenida Sete
Da paz eu sou tiete
Na barra o Farol a brilhar
Carnaval na Bahia
Oitava maravilha
Nunca irei te deixar, meu amor
Eu vou
Atrás do trio elétrico vou
Dançar ao negro toque do agogô
Curtindo minha baianidade nagô ô ô ô ô
Eu queria
Que essa fantasia fosse eterna
Quem sabe um dia
A Paz vence a guerra
E viver será só festejar
The lyrics to Silva's song Pot-Pourri: Prefixo de Verão / Baianidade Nagô are all about celebrating the arrival of a new season, specifically summer, in Salvador, Brazil. The song starts with repetitive syllables of "ae", "ei", and "oô" setting a joyous and celebratory tone. The singer expresses excitement to welcome the listener to the new season and promises to be waiting for them in the summer. The next lines pay homage to Salvador, the capital city of the Bahia state in Brazil. "Salve, Salvador" is a common greeting that literally translates to "hail, Salvador." The singer proclaims their love for the city and their willingness to do anything for it. The Pelô, which is mentioned in the next line, is an old historic district in Salvador that has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The singer continues to proudly claim their identity as a Pelô resident, asserting that blackness is a result of love. Finally, the chorus repeats the same joyful syllables from the beginning, emphasizing the party season's arrival.
The second part of the song, Baianidade Nagô, is a well-known Brazilian song written by Mateus Aleluia. The song speaks to the unique cultural identity of the African population in Bahia, specifically their connection to the "agogo," a type of bell that is common in African music. The singer talks about the joy of following the "trio elétrico," which is a type of mobile sound system used in carnival celebrations throughout Brazil. They also express a desire to never leave Bahia and to always be celebrating.
Overall, "Pot-Pourri: Prefixo de Verão / Baianidade Nagô" celebrates the joy, love, and cultural richness of Salvador, Brazil, during the summer season and how the inhabitants of the city are proud of their African heritage.
