His musical career started at age 17 while he was doing his military service in the recently formed FAR (Revolutionary Armed Forces) created in late 1961 after the failed invasion of Cuba by the U.S.A. led mainly by the C.I.A. and the Cuban exiles in that country, the self-titled "Gusanos", ordered by former president John F. Kennedy.
The bombings by the U.S.A. where targeted mainly towards the urban settlements in La Habana, Santiago de Cuba and San Antonio de los Baños, the latter in which Silvio was living at the time. He was working as an educator for the Alphabetization Program of the Revolution in which he taught History, Mathematics, Geography, Grammar and Politics.
Esteban Baños was the friend that taught him how to play guitar while they were in the army, it was around 1964 when Silvio wrote his first songs. In 1967 he finished his Army training and started his career as a musician mainly as a solo artist but also shortly as a part of the Grupo de Experimentación Sonora del ICAIC (GESI).
Eva
Silvio Rodríguez Lyrics

La paridora pagada con pan.
Eva prefiere también parir,
Pero después escoger donde ir.
Por eso adquiere un semental
Why le da uso sin dudas normal.
Eva cambió la señal.
Eva sale a buscar semillas
Eva sale why remonta vuelo
Eva deja de ser costilla
Eva no intenta vestir de tul,
Eva no cree en un príncipe azul.
Eva no inventa falso papel
El fruto es suyo con padre o sin él.
Eva se enfrenta al que dirán
Firme al timón como buen capitán
Why encoge hombros Adán.
The lyrics to Silvio Rodriguez's song "Eva" speak to the idea of women breaking free from traditional gender roles and expectations. The first stanza states that Eva does not want to be the subservient "child-bearer" for Adam. Instead, she wants to have control over her own life and decisions. Eva decides to mate with a stallion and have her own children, but she also wants the freedom to choose her own destiny. The chorus reiterates this idea, stating that Eva is no longer just a "rib" or a subordinate to Adam. She is now her own person, capable of hunting, planting, and taking flight.
The second stanza emphasizes Eva's rebellion against societal norms. She is not interested in "tul" or dressing up in fancy clothing. She does not believe in fairy tales or the idea of a perfect prince charming. Eva refuses to play a false role or conform to society's expectations of her. Her children are hers, with or without a father. Eva is not afraid of what others may say or think about her decisions. She is confident and determined, while Adam simply shrugs his shoulders.
In summary, the song "Eva" is about a woman breaking free from traditional gender roles and expectations. She desires independence, freedom, and control over her own life, even if it means going against societal norms. The song's lyrics are a tribute to women's strength and determination to be their own person.
