Simón Díaz is known worldwide as the author of Caballo Viejo, which appears on the 1980 album Caballo Viejo. It has become one of the most important folk songs in Venezuela and was a massive hit for the Franco-Spanish group the Gipsy Kings, who recorded a version of the song entitled Bamboleo.

Murió en 2014 en medio de duras manifestaciones y no recibió el homenaje póstumo que se merecía, pero lo acompaño su familia y su homenaje lo recibe cada vez que oímos sus canciones y el venezolano interno se conmueve... y si no son venezolanos ... gracias!

Gracias a Dios en vida le hicieron varios yo asistí a una que le hicieron en una feria en Caracas pero me dolió mucho que no le hicieron un buen homenaje en su partida
