My 16 year old brother gave me this album on my 8th birthday. I didn't understand it then, but I loved it because he did. It was a time of innocence; a time before money, and family businesses, and disputes over patents. I haven't seen my brother for 25 years now. Long ago, it must be. I have a photograph. How incredibly beautiful are the words and melody to this tune ! It takes be back 50 years to my youth. I have never forgotten being introduced to Simon and Garfunkel by my brothers at the tender age of probably 7 or 8 and the memories come flooding back every time I hear it, to a time where life seemed way less complicated and a lot more harmonious than it seemingly may ever be again. "Preserve your memories - they're all that's left you' may never be so poignant as they are currently.

Still getting tears into my eyes when I hear the last part of this song. I was much affected by life when I was on the age of 18 years old en I inmediately understood this song. I took a piece of paper and wrote the text down on a piece of paper. I hung in unto the wall of my sleepingroom opposite of my bed and each day I looked at this poem. "Preserve your memories; they`re all that`s left you" . "That`s all I`ve got to tell you: that`s all I`ve got to say"Art Garfunkel on the song from the last Unicorn. Next month I will reach the age of 62 years but I`ve never forgotten this song: always kept in my mind.

and so true! Paul Simon wrote these words down when he had an age of 26. In October this year he will reach the age of 75 andf still alive and performing In Europe this year!

+Marianne This has to be one of my favorite songs ever, even if it's just a minute long it fullfills and exceeds beyond anything its beauty. The melody, the lyrics, the emotions, it's perfect in any way, I can't even describe how this song makes me feel I feel so many emotions at once, I feel peaceful, nostalgic, melancholic, idk what else. I think... If I would die I wanna listen to this song as I take my last breath.

+Marianne And what's funny is I discovered this only a few days back which just shows already how beautiful this song is to me. I'm 19 so I'm now in the same place as you are when you were 18 and discovered this. I will probably write this down myself and hang it beside my bed. ShabazZiii Bam I like your answer so very much: indeed nowadays I am more than 63 years old. I was from the first generation of Simon and Garfunkel lovers during the sixties in the past century. I am so glad to see that the young people like you are also discovering these Paul Simon`s songs like you do! Paul Simon was the singer/songwriter of this dfuo and they were together from the beginning of the sixties in order to split up after their last LP "Bridge over Troubled Water". After that album they never made an album together anymore. Paul Simon has been very succesful during his solo career; Art Garfunkel did not have as much successs as Paul Simon had an still has. My favorite songs for nowadays are two songs of Paul Simon he already wrote down during the beginning of the seventies. I have to go to my bed now so I will give you the titles of both songs> "American Tune" still timeless in these years and "Slip Slidin`Away". And please do not forget the Simon and Garfunkel song "America". So talked enough to you: english is my second mother`s tongue and i am able to type very fast! I was six years old when I first heard this song on the movie girl interrupted. The song really stood out to me and has stuck with me ever since. I diddnt understand the movie like I do now and never did I expect to be the girl interrupted.

I remember hearing this for the first time on the soundtrack for the film Coming Home. It's sad and nostalgic tone was a perfect fit for a film about America recovering from the horrors of the Vietnam war and wanted to find some degree of peace. But it also has two unforgettable sequences set to the Tim Buckley song Once I Was which never fails to make me tear up. The song evokes the emotions of lost friends. So much contained within a minute and a half song.

I had a great friend and we had a wonderful relationship for over 30 years. We did so many things together, we went camping every year in a very special secluded place. We were not gay but I think a lot of people thought we were since we did so much together. One day she got mad at me, unfriended me on facebook, blocked me on her phone and refused to talk to me. After 7 years I am still trying to get in touch with her but she obviously has a strong back and is still is carring a grudge and won't speak to me. Looking through some pictures the other day I came across one of she and I. This song instantly came to mind. I will never understand how a person can just turn off the love of a friend. I miss my friend.

When my grandfather went to vietnam he was shot three times in the foot. As he went in the aid building he heard this song and he told me it felt like he was in another universe and it was like enlightenment. He spoke with Paul Simon and he said "Thats what I wanted"

@Nancy Wilson. Just saw your video that you said you made in the mid-'70s. Its beautiful. I love the wholesome, cozy feeling the video has with the photographs and this song as the music. The song sounds better in your video than it does in the album. I think the version of the song you used is the original un-remastered version or something. These classic songs always sound better in that format than they do digitally remastered. Nice work on that video. Really made me feel like I was in the '70s for a brief 2 minutes.

I love this song but what breaks me up more that anything is the beautiful photograph on the album cover. To all the young people here - time is a fucking tyrant.
