Angie
Simon & Garfunkel Lyrics

Angie came to stay
Picking up her cat and laughing
Tap-dance concrete floor
She's a special girl
Head is swelling bouncing with the
Thought of maple swirl
And if she knew of all her plowers she could
Pave this world
She will turn water into wine and back again
And if she says she has her books in order
Flags unfurl
Making it all too easy wait to crack a grin
Angie made her bed
Flowers adorn monstrous pillows
Cozy not too thin
Cats inside her den
Purrs amongst the plates of smiling
Fish swum through the door

Hearing this version of Davy Graham's tune probably opened the world of fingerstyle guitar to alot of us all those years ago.

One thing I noticed on this piece, Paul never makes one string squeak, for lack of a better word, as he’s playing this complicated melody. My husband and I loved acoustic guitar music but so many times when being played by extraordinary artists the sounds of their fingers moving on the strings cause a noise. Paul is an impressive artist.

That's a superb piece of guitar playing,

I have the impression that this David Graham written piece may have been what inspired Nancy Wilson's awesome intro to "Crazy On You". This version of this is one the best performances ever recorded of Paul Simon in my humble opinion.

Yes, Nancy Wilson does specifically mention Paul Simon's Angie in an interview as the basis for Silver Wheels.

Paul Simon is such an underrated guitar player. Just listen to his 1972 solo album for more of the same.

My favourite version of this flamenco-blues masterpiece, and the version that made me a fan of this tune.

Not to mention Bert Jansch, John Renbourn and myriad other half-decent guitarists (a quick look on YouTube brings up loads of versions) Even I can do a halfway passable version of it on a good day. It's like a rite of passage for any budding acoustic player. That's not to knock it by the way - it's probably the best acoustic guitar instrumental ever written, and so wonderfully flexible too.

This proves that Paul Simon was, in addition to his other talents, a very good acoustic guitar player.
In my opinion, this tune is flamenco music. Every true guitar player has a bit of gipsy soul. That was wholly true of Paul Simon.
