I Am a Rock
Simon & Garfunkel Lyrics

A winter's day
In a deep and dark December
I am alone
Gazing from my window to the streets below
On a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow

I am a rock
I am an island

I've built walls
A fortress deep and mighty
That none may penetrate
I have no need of friendship, friendship causes pain
It's laughter and it's loving I disdain

I am a rock
I am an island

Don't talk of love
But I've heard the word before
It's sleeping in my memory
I won't disturb the slumber of feelings that have died
If I never loved I never would have cried

I am a rock
I am an island

I have my books
And my poetry to protect me
I am shielded in my armor
Hiding in my room, safe within my womb
I touch no one and no one touches me

I am a rock
I am an island

And a rock feels no pain
And an island never cries

I Am a Rock
By Simon & Garfunkel
A winter's day
In a deep and dark
December,
I am alone,
Gazing from my window to the streets below
On a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow.
I am a rock,
I am an island.
I've built walls,
A fortress deep and mighty,
That none may penetrate.
I have no need of friendship, friendship causes pain.
It's laughter and it's loving I disdain.
I am a rock,
I am an island.
Don't talk of love,
But I've heard the words before,
It's sleeping in my memory.
I won't disturb the slumber of feelings that have died.
If I never loved I never would have cried.
I am a rock,
I am an island.
I have my books
And my poetry to protect me,
I am shielded in my armor,
Hiding in my room, safe within my womb.
I touch no one and no one touches me.
I am a rock,
I am an island.
And a rock feels no pain,
And an island never cries.

No man is an island
No one should be on their own
Look at the horizon, 'cause love will always take you home
She said all hearts break, don't lose faith
You can't live life that way
No man is an island
No one should be on their own
No man is an island
No man is an island
I'm a thousand miles from yesterday
Now I'm living like a castaway
Just a broken man on the shore, still hurting from the one before
'Cause when you go solo, in the feeling solo
You become your own worst enemy
Thinking that there's no hope, and your boat won't float
This is what she said, what she said to me

A winter's day
In a deep and dark December
I am alone
Gazing from my window
To the streets below
On a freshly fallen, silent shroud of snow
I am a rock , I am an island
I've built walls
A fortress, steep and mighty
That none may penetrate
I have no need of friendship
Friendship causes pain.
It's laughter and it's loving I disdain.
I am a rock , I am an island
Don't talk of love
Well, I've heard the words before
It's sleeping in my memory
And I won't disturb the slumber
Of feelings that have died
If I never loved, I never would have cried
I am a rock , I am an island
I have my books
And my poetry to protect me
I am shielded in my armor
Hiding in my room
Safe within my womb
I touch no one and no one touches me
I am a rock , I am an island
And a rock feels no pain
And an island never cries 🖤🖤

The beginning of the "I am a Rock" arc starts with a flashback to a winter's day, in a deep and dark December

TransRoofKorean

I think what he was going for, before "flashback", was simply the wonderful alliteration he managed. Yes, it can definitely be appropriately read as a flashback, but also to a description of the moment, for a self-obsessed lonely, depressed individual, narrating his dejection.

I listen to this when l get bummed. It is a great song! No matter what month. Also it's great!

chriscboland

Can you imagine any contemporary songwriter beginning a final verse with the line ‘I Have My Books’?

Ceiling Fan Enthusiast

@Dirt Disrespector oh ok lol. I'm not a big manga guy so unless the show finishes, idk if I'll ever see it.

Dirt Disrespector

@Ceiling Fan Enthusiast Actually it's from JoJolion
