Old Friends / Bookends
Simon & Garfunkel Lyrics

Old friends
Old friends
Sat on their park bench like bookends
A newspaper blowin' through the grass
Falls on the round toes
Of the high shoes
Of the old friends

Old friends
Winter companions, the old men
Lost in their overcoats, waiting for the sunset
The sounds of the city sifting through trees
Settle like dust
On the shoulders of the old friends

Can you imagine us years from today
Sharing a park bench quietly?
How terribly strange to be seventy

Old friends
Memory brushes the same years
Silently sharing the same fear

A time it was, and what a time it was, it was
A time of innocence
A time of confidences

Long ago it must be
I have a photograph
Preserve your memories
They're all that's left you

Old friends, old friends,
Sat on their park bench like bookends
A newspaper blown through the grass
Falls on the round toes
of the high shoes of the old friends
Old friends, winter companions, the old men
Lost in their overcoats, waiting for the sun
The sounds of the city sifting through trees

Old friends, memory brushes the same years,
Silently sharing the same fears

How terribly strange to be 70.
Paul will turn 78 in October ... Art in November.
Old friends in deed.

Amen to that.

It's strange to be 70 without Kathleen, my wife of 46 years, who died of cancer on January 30th. Until we are together again , my love.

Love is lasting and beautiful. I'm encouraged by your love for your wife. Sorry for your sorrow "OLD FRIEND". My wife has had cancer twice and still lives in dependant torment and pain from her surgeries and radiation. She still loves life despite her loss. I understand the pain of your loss because I would rather die than lose her. Thank you for expressing your feelings. Stay healthy, you are helping many by continuing to live and enjoy what you had in the past. You are a support to all who are suffering. God bless you SIR!

I am sorry for your lost loved one. We must remember on this side of eternity all love stories end sadly. (Not my words)
