Table For Two
Simon and the ghost Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

A milk lit moon, it floods the room, and lights a path.
Right to the door, they sweep the floor, I drain my glass.
A night of waiting patiently for you,
Drinking for two.

The city sleeps, I walk the streets, alone again.
And no-one hears the stifled tears, I duly shed.
Just waiting on my boat to cross the blue,
Drinking for two.

And if love should stay, at least it could fray, and fall apart at the seams.
But this love of mine is frozen in time, and so i'm stuck inside my dreams.

From basement bar, to late night Spar, I drag my feet.
With time to kill, I will until, the morning creeps.
Across this old skyline searching for you.
Drinking for two.

And if love should stay, at least it could fray, and fall apart at the seams.
But this love of mine is frozen in time, and so i'm stuck inside my dreams.

And there you were, with love to spare, the kindest eyes.
A fleeting glance, a drink, a dance, a long goodbye.
So tired of waiting patiently for you.
Drinking for two.

Drinking for two.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Simon and The Ghost's song "Table For Two" convey a sense of loneliness, unrequited love, and the desperation that comes with it. The first stanza describes a night spent waiting for someone, drinking alone at a table, and hoping that they will show up. The imagery of the "milk lit moon" flooding the room with light serves to accentuate the solitude of the singer. The second verse talks about how the singer walks the streets of the city, and no one hears his "stifled tears" as he waits for his love to come. The lyrics are imbued with a sense of melancholy and resignation.

The chorus of the song talks about the frozen nature of the singer's love, which is stuck in time and unable to change. He wishes that the love would at least fray and fall apart, so that he could move on from it. But he seems destined to be stuck inside his dreams, waiting for a love that is never returned. The last stanza describes a chance encounter with the person that the singer has been waiting for, with "love to spare" and "kind eyes." However, the encounter is brief, and the singer is once again left alone, drinking for two.

Overall, the lyrics of "Table For Two" paint a bleak picture of the singer's emotional state, and the difficulty of breaking free from unreciprocated love.

This show is based on the incorporation of the 48 laws of power, and how a man (who plays two characters.. battling himself who seems to be his own worst enemy ;Ghost vs. Jamie) uses them to achieve the ultimate power. Do they state this directly? No , they don’t have to.. those who know.. know. The name of the show is Power. Google the book and one of the first names you see in reference to popularizing the book is 50 cent. Literally., lol Forget the theatrics, let’s think about that for a second. Unbeknownst to us, Ghost is trying to achieve the ultimate illusion . To be a straightforward legitimate businessman free of crime and free of the hassles related to his previous endeavors as a drug lord. . But he pursues this without regard to the fact that he has not yet faced redemption, this is because he is still very much ghost. The act of aspiring to become legit is only frequently highlighted to emphasize and associate a legit businessman with a righteous good man . Yet, the fact that this is a man who has murdered, lied , cheated and relentlessly showed disloyalty to everyone he wrapped around his finger into believing he loved them. The truth is his love and loyalty was conditional and circumstantial at best and once he was no longer in need of the asset they provided in his pursuit of power they were discarded.. this show is awesome and successful in enveloping the audience in his perspection of himself or how he views himself, so u constantly forgive his actions and base them on even a simple frowned upon act of the individuals (Tasha ,Tariq,Angie,tommy) he hurt .. basically, in the mind of the audience they deserved whatever they got and it’s the result of the fait he bestowed upon them. None of the audience realize that this is only their perspective because it is unconsciously Ghosts perception as well. Meanwhile, you are not shown the loyalty he has received from Tasha in the beginning of their relationship , you’re not aware of the previous image or pedestal Tariq placed his father on before his father slowly but surely started not to measure up to being “his father” or how this could have made him feel betrayed or abandoned by ghost. They only give you the information that the elephant in the room of Tariq and ghost was a fire being fed with gasoline logs stemming from the statement made by Tariq of wanting to go back to before Ghost left “them “ for Angie. This lets me kno that Tariq once loved and trusted his father. you don’t even hear of the fact that tasha risked her life for him until it’s too late to be counted as a character point. You never see the story unfold of how he betrayed Kanan even tho they were like brothers. You don’t see the base of the relationship he formed with tommy before the drugs. You are seeing this story from a man unconsciously driven by a thirst for power. But what u perceive it to be from ghosts perspective is a man trying desperately to find a way out of a dangerous world that it seems people want to keep him in for the benifit of themselves. When you only see it from his perspective, you can’t help but empathize. This is done purposely. We view him as a protagonist when he is very much the opposite. Plainly stated. Jamie sees a world where he can have a power where his notoriety goes beyond the streets . He has a lucrative business, he sees a way to still be on top of the world without risking his life. With Tasha he had a rider turned housewife who could help him in accounting as well as maintaining the loving husband and wife role. With Angie , he had a thrill who validated his perception of himself as someone who can be powerful and “good” . he also had a legal asset with her. Any and everyone is used at his discretion. He doesn’t care that Angie may loose or job or her reputation, or that she will eventually resent him for trapping his with an illusion of a person she believes he is, while he knows all along it is a person he can’t be. he doesn’t care that Tasha will be a single mom with nothing who had suffer the lost of a child they both loved. Or that she can’t love or be with anyone while he can do as he pleases. and he doesn’t care that tommy will not have a plug to make ends meet bc business isn’t for him. , all ghost sees is Jamie, implementing the 48 laws of power of recreating yourself. the crazy part about that is all Jamie sees is ghost. Running from his past, he’s only running from and at the same time into who he truly is. It’s demonstrated that he kept trying to bury a necessary part of him in an attempt of embracing the person he wanted to be this is incorporation of the 48 laws of power. Image and reputation is everything, Guard it with your life. ! He already has his street creditably and most notably, he’ll still kill to maintain his image or to stop the infiltration of his ultimate goal. Here’s the thing . If ghost has defeated anyone who has tried to eliminate or outsmart him. even real deal king pins, then it’s expected of the audience to think that ghost would not see his son coming. We forget that he gives everyone a legitimate reason to kill him right before his alleged death. Another law being incorporated, playing on the emotional weakness and anger of your enemies, you force them to make a move and show their hand while you remain calm and wait for the attack. Planning to the end is something ghost has always done even if we didn’t realize a strategy until seasons later ,being ghost comes with many day to day Unforseen circumstances so even lack of order or form is always order to ghost. , so I can assure you that he anticipated an attack that night. This is only the beginning of this saga. I’m sure these scenarios have been place in stories to bring ghost back , however I’m sure it will not be before we understand the perception of ghost thru the eyes of those who tried to end his life. And what so vigorously led to their actions and why were fueled .
I listed the 48 powers below and every singe one of them can be associated with a scenario from power. That is truly what this show is about so there would be no justification from killing ghost without understanding the history behind the pain. Power comes with a price so the fact that ghost allegedly paid with his life is not as sufficient as redemption which is a necessary for the this show to even be titled power.

Ghost was literally living to die. His constant thirst for power was killing the “Jamie he wanted so badly be , I think he realized he had to die to live.
I think tariqs statement before pulling the trigger on his father about Angie kinda helped ghost see from a different perspective. He was staring at a replica of himself, someone he had constantly TOLD who to be while SHOWING him who he would be . Kids don’t do what u say they do what they see. I think ghost knew Tariq could see him for him who he was and not who ghost thought he seen him as. . all of this fits the narrative of the resurrection of ghost, only this time, I think it will be father vs son . It’s not a coincidence power book to is named after ghost but features Tariq. I think in the end it will be revealed how ghost had a hand in every move that was made unbeknownst to Tariq. But only to protect him . I think ghost will fight the ghost he created in his son to fight for his sons life. Take a look at the chess depicted in the opening of each episode stated, and how the camera is constantly panning the chess board in Tariq room . I think symbolically, this is chess being played among him and his father. If u pay attention to the opening, the skyscrapers, the watch jewlrey , the image of a man being split, a man putting on a business suit and a man putting on a tie, gUns , bullets that fade into lipstick. Women . All being shown in black and white as splitting images While 50 cent raps the life of Jamie turned ghost turned Jamie & ghost as 1 man. At the end , there ard skyscrapers and the double man forms into one and it is only him leaving. What shall it profit a man to gain the whole world but loose his own soul? This is what I meant when I said ghost has yet to receive redemption. In my opinion , ghost is far from gone. Ghost never die.

Law 2: Never put too much trust in friends, learn how to use your enemies

Law 25: Recreate yourself
Do not accept the roles that society foists on you. Re-create yourself by forging a new identity, one that commands attention and never bores the audience. Be the master of your own image rather than letting others define it for you. Incorporate dramatic devices into your public gestures and actions—your power will be enhanced and your character will seem larger than life.

Law 29: Plan all the way to the end
The ending is everything. Plan all the way to it, taking into account all the possible consequences, obstacles, and twists of fortune that might reverse your hard work and give the glory to others. By planning to the end you will not be overwhelmed by circumstances and you will know when to stop. Gently guide fortune and help determine the future by thinking far ahead.

Law31: Control the options: Get others to play with the cards you deal
The best deceptions are the ones that seem to give the other person a choice: Your victims feel they are in control, but are actually your puppets. Give people options that come out in your favor whichever one they choose. Force them to make choices between the lesser of two evils, both of which serve your purpose. Put them on the horns of a dilemma. They are gored wherever they turn.

Law 39: Stir up waters to catch fish
Anger and emotion are strategically counterproductive. You must always stay calm and objective. But if you can make your enemies angry while staying calm yourself, you gain a decided advantage. Put your enemies off-

I don't think Ghost is dead. It all seemed too easy to kill him the way it was shown. And the way he argued and made enemies with people on the run up to his death, he was planning something for sure. He knew he was going to "die" and put all the plans into action to look after those around him. Tommy with the car, Kate Egan, Angela's sister, Tariq etc.

What has made me think recently though, is how Ghost could have planned Tariq's future for him without him even knowing. He wanted him to go to college and complete it. Simon Stern has got him into the College under the provision that he helps Zeke pass too.

Why would Simon Stern be bothered about Zeke completing college? I think Ghost knows about the Tejada family, and knew if Tariq was looking after Zeke he would be introduced at some point to Monet. Ghost knew Tariq would try and connect himself with Monet and her little business. Monet took to Tariq rather quickly and included him like a family member. She has probably been told by Ghost to look after his son, and potentially teach him the drug game.

I don't understand why Stern would be bothered if Zeke finishes college or not? Ghosts master plan will be for Tariq to go to college, pass it, and come out fully educated in school and also the drug game having experienced being around Monet and seeing how they do things.

Once Tariq has graduated, Ghost will connect with him and we could well see an episode where we see how Ghost has looked out for Tariq every step of the way through college. From sending 2-Bit to keep an eye on him (and teaching him about paying for protection, and extorsion), to Monet taking him under her wing, to most probably many other things we haven't seen yet.

Tariq will have a new found respect for Ghost after walking in his shoes whilst he has been away, and Ghost will have a son who he can pass on his legacy to, and also has experience in running a drug business.

Time to let Ghost go is my opinion but let me know yours.. & IF they did bring Ghost back, IF they did then how would they do it? How would they write him back into the story?

@musclesmurf8528

I agree with everything you said. Still I was holding back for just this time to send you this link. I don't usually watch this guy but I saw it and out of curiosity his clues seem very compelling. What say you?

@kianmcknight8705

I believe that for now he’s “dead” but if the show has abit of a decline in the future which I believe won’t happen for a while but they might bring him back If the show is dying off, not sure how well I explained that but you get what I mean

@ablemukundi-jiho7046

I do think Jamie st Patrick is dead, however I think ghost is a spirit and is alive and is now living in Tariq. However, I think people think he couldn’t die like that because Courtney kemp made him so smart and three steps ahead of his opponents that it was so simple the way he was killed by his own son. In terms of Jamie St Patrick being alive, I still do think there is a possibility. Ramona of all people was not at the funeral.

He could be away painting watercolours. Lobos convinced ghost of the lifestyle, and ghost at least thought of the idea. Like lobos said he needs to be unreachable, undetectable, invisible so he can stay invincible. And I think ghost, planned an escape with Ramona and left to a discreet location.

@@ablemukundi-jiho7046 watch the link I sent above. I really want Movie bot comments lol

Ghost is always steps ahead. He knew he couldn’t change the path Tariq was on by staying around. So by faking his death he was able to manipulate Tariq in a way. He forced Tariq to get a degree if he wanted that money. Even though Tariq is still doing his thing Tariq will have options to get out.
I think Ghost comes back when Tariq graduates.

All these “ ghost is alive” theories do is show just how great of a character ghost was because he could come back in the dumbest way possible and people wouldn’t care

@AMZSims

Exactly 😔

@filbertochavez776

🤣🤣 because it’s ghost

@pennyhardaway7491

They need to bring Ghost back! Omari's acting was so damn stellar! What a performance. Tommy has his own spin-off but meh, he was annoying. Ghost had connections, plausible that he had a body double. Paid authorities/hospital/coroner to fake his death so he can relax on a beach sipping girly cocktails, planning, plotting, scheming for his return.
Why can't there be a continued franchise with a successful black drug dealer on TV?
