Mar e lua
Simone Lyrics

O amor urgente
As bocas salgadas
Pela maresia
As costas lenhadas
Pela tempestade
Naquela cidade
Distante do mar
Amaram
O amor serenado
Das noturnas praias
Levantavam as saias
E se enluaravam
De felicidade
Naquela cidade
Que não tem luar
Amavam
O amor proibido
Pois hoje é sabido
- Todo mundo conta
Que uma andava tonta
Grávida de lua
E outra andava nua
À vida de mar
E foram
Ficando marcadas
Ouvindo risadas
Sentindo arrepios
Olhando pro rio
Tão cheio de lua
E que continua
Correndo pro mar
E foram
Correnteza abaixo
Rolando no leito
Engolindo água
Boiando com as algas
Arrastando folhas
Carregando flores
E a se desmanchar
E foram
Virando peixes
Virando conchas
Virando seixos
Virando areia
Prateada areia
Com lua cheia
E à beira-mar.
The lyrics of "Mar e lua" by Simone describe a love story that takes place by the sea. The first stanza talks about the urgency of their love, how salty their mouths become due to the sea air, and how their backs are marked by the storms that hit the distant city they come from. The second stanza highlights how they love calmly and at night, as they lift their skirts and bask in the moonlight. They love despite the prohibition that comes with their social status. One woman is known to be pregnant by the moon, and the other is known to live her life naked by the sea. They become the subject of ridicule and derision.
In the third stanza, they become one with the sea - they are swept away by the current and are carried away in the waves. They become fish, shells, pebbles, and finally, silver sand under the moonlight. The currents carry them to the shore where they now lay, and at the end of the song, they are forever with the sea.
