Stairway to Heaven
Simone Kopmajer Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for
Ooh, ooh, and she's buying a stairway to heaven
There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure'
Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings
In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven
Ooh, it makes me wonder
Ooh, it makes me wonder
There's a feeling I get when I look to the west
And my spirit is crying for leaving
In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees
And the voices of those who stand looking

If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now
It's just a spring clean for the May queen
Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on
And it makes me wonder

Ooh yeaa

And it makes me wonder

And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to know
How everything still turns to gold
And if you listen very very hard
The tune will come to you at last
When all are one and one is all, yeah

To be a rock and not to roll
And she's buying a stairway to heaven

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Simone Kopmajer's "Stairway to Heaven" describe a lady who is focused on material possessions, represented by the metaphor of "buying a stairway to heaven." She believes that everything that glitters is gold, but it seems she is aware of the possibility of being deceived. The desire to possess wealth and material goods could mean that she feels an emptiness within herself. To her, the stairway could be a metaphor for her way of achieving her goals and finding fulfillment in life. The lyrics also reflect the possibility of manipulating words and their meanings. The songbird in the tree could represent someone who desires to share their thoughts and ideas but might not be heard due to the prejudice of people or society. The song brings a sense of confusion, wonder, and disillusionment, urging listeners to reflect on what brings them true happiness.

Overall, the lyrics of "Stairway to Heaven" invite listeners to reflect on the price we pay for our materialistic and worldly pursuits, our ability to interpret language's meaning and our desire to be fulfilled.

Lovely voice. As a long time Led Zeppelin fan, I must say I am disappointed to notice two entire verses omitted. One starts with "And it's whispered that soon, if we all call the tune, then the piper will lead us to reason. And a new day will dawn for those who stand long and the forests will echo with laughter." The next missing verse starts with "your head is humming and it won't go" and continues on about the piper calling you to join him. It ends with "your stairway lies on the whispering wind." Simone also got a couple lyrics wrong. The "sprinkling" for the May queen is a "spring clean." And it is "in" the long run, not "on" the long run. Such a beautiful song should also properly reflect what the composer wrote.
