C Moon Cry Like a Baby
Simple Minds Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Cry like a baby
Come on, come on
So where do you go
Up high under low
The devil I know said, "Something is missing."
Outside it's hot, the first of July
"Something is missing."
Midnight she cried like a baby
Come on, come on, come on
Cried like a baby
Can this be something we can't understand?
Could it be the girl can't understand?
Where will we go
Up high under low
The devil I know said, "Something is missing."
Sweet lil' angels sing 'bout the fast pace of things
But earth children sing, "Love will conquer anything."
Midnight she cried like a baby
Come on, come on, come on
Cried like a baby
Could it be we can't understand?
Can it be we can't...
Cry, cry, cry, cry like a ...
Midnight ...
Cry like a ...
Whisper, scream like a baby
Ahh, cry, cry like a baby
Could this be something we can't understand?
Cry like a baby
Cry like a baby
Could this something the girl can't understand [understand]?
Could this be something ...
The song "C Moon Cry Like a Baby" by Simple Minds contains lyrics that beautifully capture the emotions of uncertainty and longing for something that seems missing. From the very first line "cry, cry, cry, cry like a baby," the listener can sense a certain desperation in the tone of the song. The repetition of the phrase, "something is missing" adds to the sense of unrest and confusion. The lines "could it be the girl can't understand, can it be we can't understand" create a sense of isolation and questions which remain unanswered.
The imagery of the devil and angels is used to convey a sense of moral compass and the tension between right and wrong. The line "sweet little angels sing 'bout the fast pace of things, but earth children sing, 'love will conquer anything'" shows the contrast between the innocence of children and the corruption of the adult world.
The phrase "up high under low" could be interpreted in different ways, but it seems to suggest the different levels of consciousness, high being the spiritual and low being the materialistic. The song creates a sense of longing for something more, something greater, which is beyond our understanding.
