All across the land it's East At Easter
People walking hand in hand
When ships are moving south it will be East at Easter
We will rock you, rock you little child
We will rock you, rock you little child
All across the land it's East At Easter
All across the land it's East At Easter
Things will lighten up the sky, East At Easter
Things will lighten up the sky, East At Easter
We'll go walking hand in hand
'Cause all across the land it will be East At Easter
Ah, we will rock you, rock you little child
We will rock you, rock you little child
All across the land it's East At Easter
When ships go moving south it will be East At Easter
They're gonna lighten up the sky
They're gonna lighten up the sky
They're gonna lighten up the sky
East At Easter
Ah, we'll go walking hand in hand
We'll go walking hand in hand, yes
We will rock you, rock you little child
We will rock you, rock you
Rock you little child
They're gonna lighten up the sky
When they lighten up the sky it will be East At Easter
We will rock you, rock you, rock you
The lyrics to Simple Minds's song East and Easter evoke imagery of people walking hand in hand across the land, with the sky alight in celebration of Easter. The repetition of "East At Easter" reinforces the idea that Easter is a time of hope and renewal, and that the arrival of spring brings with it a sense of joy and optimism. The song's chorus – "We will rock you, rock you little child" – is a call to action, a statement of faith that encourages listeners to embrace life and all of its possibilities.
The repeated refrain of "All across the land it's East At Easter" serves to remind the listener that the celebration of Easter is universal. No matter where one is in the world, the arrival of spring and the rebirth it represents is cause for celebration. The repeated reference to "ships moving south" speaks to the idea that Easter is a time of movement and change; the ships symbolize the journey that each of us takes in life, and the sense of hope and excitement that comes with the beginning of a new adventure.
In general, the lyrics to East and Easter are hopeful and inspiring, painting a picture of a world where people come together to celebrate the arrival of spring and the renewal of life. The song is a celebration of the human spirit, and a testament to the beauty and resilience of the human experience.

Every so often, I come to this clip and take it in. One of the most extraordinary pieces of music ever played. The original was good but this takes it to a whole new level. Michael McNeil's keyboards and Charlie Burchill's guitars, acoustic and electric, are brilliant.

This version, in Verona, live, after the street fighting years, with Jim, Mick and Charlie, is the best. Its hauntingly melodic, touching and exquisite, in an unimaginable way.
