You know she comes around
She about five feet four
A-from her head to the ground
You know she comes around here
At just about midnight
She make ya feel so good, Lord
She make ya feel all right
And her name is, G L O R I,
G L O R I A, Gloria
G L O R I A, Gloria
I'm gonna shout it all night, Gloria
I'm gonna shout it everyday, Gloria
Yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah
She comes around here
Just about midnight
Ha, she make me feel so good, Lord
I wanna say she make me feel alright
Comes a-walkin' down my street
When she comes to my house
She knocks upon my door
And then she comes in my room
Yeah, an' she make me feel alright
G L O R I A, Gloria
G L O R I A, Gloria
I'm gonna shout it all night, Gloria
I'm gonna shout it everyday, Gloria
Yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah
Looks so good, Gloria, Alright
Just so good, Gloria, alright, yeah
The Simple Minds' song "Gloria" is a classic rock tune about a woman named Gloria who comes around at midnight to make the singer feel good. The lyrics describe how Gloria is about five feet four inches tall and how she knocks on the singer's door and comes into his room, making him feel alright. The chorus repeats her name, G-L-O-R-I-A, and proclaims the singer's intention to shout it all night and every day.
One interpretation of the song is that it is about a woman who brings joy and pleasure to the singer's life, but it could also be interpreted as a metaphor for rock and roll music itself, and how it brings people together to shout and sing and feel good together. The repetition of the name Gloria and the call-and-response structure of the song lend it an almost tribal, ritualistic quality that captures the spirit of rock and roll.
Moreover, the song has gained enormous popularity since its release in 1982. It has been covered by several other artists, including Patti Smith, the Doors, and Van Morrison. The song has also been used extensively in movies and TV shows, including Martin Scorsese's "The Departed" and the popular TV drama "The Americans."
