Hello
Simple Minds Lyrics

Hello, I love you, let me jump in your game
Hello, I love you, won't you tell me your name?
Hello, I love you, let me jump in your game
She's walkin' down the street
She's blind to every eye she meets
Do you think you'll be that guy
Hello, I love you, won't you tell me your name?
Hello, I love you, let me jump in your game
Hello, I love you, won't you tell me your name?
Hello, I love you, let me jump in your game
She holds her head so high
Like a statue in the sky
Her arms are wicked and her legs are long
When she moves my mind screams out this song
Hello, I love you, won't you tell me your name?
Hello, I love you, let me jump in your game
Hello, I love you, won't you tell me your name?
Hello, I love you, let me jump in your game
Hello, hello, hello, hello, hello
Sidewalk crouches at her feet
Like a dog that begs for something sweet
Do you hope to make her see, you fool?
Do you hope to have this dusky jewel?
Hello, hello, hello, hello, hello, hello, hello
Hello, hello, hello, hello
Hello, I love you, won't you tell me your name?
Hello, I love you, let me jump in your game
Hello, I love you, won't you tell me your name?
Hello, I love you, let me jump in your game
Hello, I love you, won't you tell me your name?
Hello, I love you, let me jump in your game
Hello, I love you, won't you tell me your name?
Hello, I love you, let me jump in your game
The lyrics to Simple Minds' song "Hello" speak to the idea of a chance encounter with an alluring stranger, and the desire to know more about them. The repeated phrase "Hello, I love you, won't you tell me your name?" serves as a line of introduction, a request to know more about the object of the singer's affection. The line "Let me jump in your game" suggests an eagerness to be part of the other person's life, to participate in whatever adventure or experience they are pursuing. The song also includes references to the physical aspects of the stranger, particularly their long legs and proud posture, which only serves to heighten the sense of fascination and desire.
The idea of chance encounters or "meet-cutes" is a common theme in many songs and pieces of romantic fiction, but what sets "Hello" apart is the suggestion of a power dynamic between the two parties. The lyrics describe the stranger as a queen or jewel, while the singer is presented as a would-be suitor vying for their attention. This creates a tension around the idea of agency and control in the relationship, with the question being whether the singer will be able to win over the object of their affections or whether the stranger will remain out of reach.
