League Of Nations
The lyrics to Simple Minds' song "League of Nations" can be interpreted in a number of ways, but at its core, it seems to be a commentary on the failings of global organizations like the United Nations. The repetition of the phrase "League of Nations" implies that the singer is frustrated with the lack of action or progress from this institution. The word "relief" appears repeatedly as well, which could be interpreted as a plea for help or assistance from those in power.
The repetition of "relief" could also be interpreted in a more ominous way, however. By emphasizing the need for "relief" so heavily, the singer may be suggesting that the situation is dire and that nothing short of drastic action will suffice. This idea is reinforced by the sparse, moody instrumentation of the song, which creates a sense of tension and unease.
Ultimately, the meaning of the song is open to interpretation, as with any piece of art. However, it's clear that the lyrics are meant to provoke thought and encourage the listener to question the status quo.
