Seeing Out the Angel
Simple Minds Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Last song that the land sings
In colorful, breathless, emotional sea
Leaving us in this way
Seeing out the angel
From the shadows of a day
That stands alone and crying young
Singing fascination
For the twist in anxious days
That stand alone and crying young
Seeing out the angels
From the rescue pools of life
That stand alone and crying young
Rescue by the first light
Receiving us with these tears
Feeling your gaze in the back of my eyes
Leaving worlds this way
Seeing out the angel
From the shadows of a day
That stands alone and crying young
Singing fascination
For the twist in anxious days
That stand alone and crying young
Seeing out the angels
From the rescue pools of life
That stand alone and crying young
In voice leading to voices
Last song that the land sings
In colorful, breathless, emotional sea
Leaving us this way
Seeing out the angel
From the shadows of a day
That stands alone and crying young
Singing fascination
For the twist in anxious days
That stand alone and crying young
Seeing out the angels
From the rescue pools of life
That stand alone and crying young
Seeing out the angel
From the shadows of a day
That stands alone and crying young
Singing fascination
For the twist in anxious days
That stand alone and crying young
Seeing out the angels
Singing fascination

Seeing out the angels
The lyrics to Simple Minds's song Seeing Out the Angel are poetic and open-ended. The first verse speaks of "voice leading to voices," which could be interpreted in several ways. It could mean the harmonies created by multiple voices, or it could refer to the idea that one's voice can lead or inspire others to speak up. The line "last song that the land sings" suggests that there is a sense of finality or ending to the message being conveyed. The following line "in colorful breathless emotional sea" creates an image of a powerful and overwhelming experience. The phrase "leaving us in this way" implies that there is a sense of loss or separation.
The chorus begins with the line "seeing out the angel," which may refer to the idea of seeking guidance or inspiration from something greater than ourselves. The next line "from the shadow of a day" suggests that the singer is seeking this guidance during a difficult or challenging time. The phrase "singing fascination" is somewhat ambiguous, but could be interpreted as a desire to understand or be captivated by something. The line "for the twist in anxious days" suggests that this desire for understanding is motivated by a need to make sense of difficult circumstances. The final line "that stand alone and crying young" creates a sense of vulnerability and isolation.
The second verse begins with the phrase "rescue by the first light," which could be interpreted in a few different ways. It could refer to the idea of being saved by the light of a new day, or it could be a more metaphorical description of a new perspective or way of seeing things. The line "receiving us with these tears" creates a sense of emotional release or catharsis. The singer feels the gaze of someone else "in the back of my eyes," which could be interpreted as feeling seen or understood by another. The final line "leaving worlds this way" creates a sense of departure or moving on.
Overall, the lyrics of Seeing Out the Angel are rich with imagery and open to interpretation. The themes of seeking guidance, understanding difficult circumstances, and emotional vulnerability are present throughout the song.

Simple Minds were so brillant in the late 70's and early 80's. Their songs were beautiful, deep, atmospheric and haunting...Although I like some of the songs they have released since 1985, I will always remember them for their early career!

You never ever get sick of simple minds.
Been listening to this song for 30 years and still love it.
Nothing to listen to?
I always can go back and absorb early SM minds and be satisfied.Suprisingly technical deep music I'll never become sick of,ever!!!

Atmosfere sognanti, voce di Jim Kerr ai massimi livelli, sintetizzatori liquidi. Capolavoro assoluto

This is the first Simple Minds song that I heard years ago; and I was hooked!! The atmospheric quality of the music and Jim's vocal hovering over it make this a MUST-HAVE song in anyone's library!!
