And for not leaving me
And for not leaving me
And for not leaving me

You are gentle with me
You are gentle with me
You are gentle with me
You are gentle with me

Thanks for silence with me
Thanks for silence with me
Thanks for silence with me
Thanks for silence with me

Thank you for holding me
And saying "I could be"
Thank you for saying "Baby"
Thank you for holding me

Thank you for helping me
Thank you for helping me
Thank you for helping me
Thank you, thank you for helping me

Thank you for breaking my heart
Thank you for tearing me apart
Now I've a strong, strong heart
Thank you for breaking my heart

Thank you for singing for us.
Sinead, you wouldn’t have remembered me, but we ended up in some chat room years ago when you were so angry, and so hurt because of what people were saying about you. You are so strong and yet so very human with tender feelings. Such a deep profound sense of justice and right in a world where justice and right so seldom prevail.

I sang various versions of this song to myself 2013, 10 years ago, when I was hiking the Appalachian Trail. I thanked the trail and the sky and the trees. I thanked the rain and the rocks and the roots, the mountains and the creeks.

This song reminded me of all the things we have to be grateful for and helped me find my Place in the Universe.

Thank you
Thank you

About 21 years ago I was playing in the residents lounge of the Gleneagle Hotel in Killarney. I took a break and went for a wee nosey in the VIP lounge of the INEC. I went in and there was a girl playing the cello. It sounded beautiful…then Sinéad started singing and the sound was celestial. Pure crystal tone and no amplification.
She had just finished playing her gig and this was her winding down.
I rarely use the word awesome unless I’m actually in awe. And I was, so this was awesome in the literal sense of the word.

Last year I watched the new documentary about Sinéad’s life of controversy. She was mocked and pilloried for telling the truth about the Catholic Church. She’s since been well and truly vindicated.

This song is a fairly recent find for me but it’s a special one.

I hope she finds peace on the next phase of her journey. RIP
