Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
Sinatra & Crosby Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Let your heart be light
Next year, all our troubles will be out of sight
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Make the Yuletide gay
Next year, all our troubles will be miles away
Once again as in olden days
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Will be near to us once more
Someday soon we all will be together
If the fates allow
Until then, we'll have to muddle through somehow
So have yourself a merry little Christmas now
The lyrics to the classic holiday song "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas," popularized by Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby, are filled with both hope and bittersweet reflection. The song speaks to the universal human desire for joy and celebration during the holidays, but also acknowledges the challenges and difficulties that often come with the season.
The opening lines, "Have yourself a merry little Christmas / Let your heart be light / Next year, all our troubles will be out of sight," set the tone for the song's hopeful message. The singer encourages listeners to let go of their worries and embrace the joy and warmth of the season, with the promise that things will get better in the year to come.
The second verse, "Once again as in olden days / Happy golden days of yore / Faithful friends who are dear to us / Will be near to us once more," reflects on the nostalgia many people feel during the holidays for past traditions and memories. The idea of being reunited with loved ones is a comforting one, especially during a year when many people are unable to gather together in person.
The final verse, "Someday soon we all will be together / If the fates allow / Until then, we'll have to muddle through somehow / So have yourself a merry little Christmas now," speaks to the challenges of the present moment and the importance of finding joy and connection despite those challenges. The lyrics are a reminder that even in difficult times, there is still hope for a better future and reasons to celebrate in the present.

I’m Venezuelan and when I migrated to NYC from my hometown Caracas by the end of November 2018, almost Christmas time, it sucked a lot to see everybody around me with their families while I was all alone. The details in this video just made my heart melt and I even laugh at the fact that you indeed leave your big house in Venezuela for a tiny little space in NYC.
