It CAme Upon a Midnight Clear
Sinatra & Crosby Lyrics

That glorious song of old
From Angels playing near the earth
To touch their harps of gold
Peace on the earth could will two men
From Heaven's all-gracious King
The world in solemn stillness lay
And I hear them singing
Sing, I do hear them singing
The first Noel the Angel did say
Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay
In fields where they lay, they keeping their sheep
On a cold winter's night that was so deep
The song "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear" is a classic Christmas hymn that speaks to the beauty and wonder of the holiday season. The lyrics describe the moment when angels descended to earth to announce the birth of Jesus, appearing to shepherds in the fields and singing to them about the peace and joy that his coming would bring. The song is steeped in religious imagery, calling on the powers of heaven to bring comfort and grace to the world. It speaks to the transformative power of Christmas, and the way that it brings people together in harmony and fellowship.
The first verse of the song sets the scene, describing the moment when the angels appear to play their harps and herald the birth of Christ. The second verse speaks to the idea that peace on earth is possible, but only through the grace of God. The world is depicted as being in a state of quiet reverence, listening to the angels sing and awaiting the arrival of the savior. The final verses describe the joy that the shepherds felt upon receiving the news of Jesus' birth, and the way that they spread that joy throughout the world.

It came upon the midnight clear,
That glorious song of old,
From angels bending near the earth
To touch their harps of gold;
"Peace on the earth, good will to men
From heaven's all-gracious King" –
The world in solemn stillness lay
To hear the angels sing.
Still through the cloven skies they come
With peaceful wings unfurled,
And still their heavenly music floats
O'er all the weary world;
Above its sad and lowly plains
They bend on hovering wing,
And ever o'er its Babel-sounds
The blessed angels sing.
But with the woes of sin and strife
The world has suffered long;
Beneath the angel-strain have rolled
Two thousand years of wrong;
And man, at war with man, hears not
The love-song which they bring; –
Oh hush the noise, ye men of strife,
And hear the angels sing!
And ye, beneath life's crushing load,
Whose forms are bending low,
Who toil along the climbing way
With painful steps and slow,
Look now! for glad and golden hours
Come swiftly on the wing; –
Oh, rest beside the weary road
And hear the angels sing!
For lo! the days are hastening on
By prophet bards foretold,
When with the ever circling years
Comes round the age of gold;
When Peace shall over all the earth
Its ancient splendors fling,
And the whole world give back the song
Which now the angels sing.

My father is the Frank Sinatra version of the Philippines 🇵🇭. It's always been good to hear this song. I will see him in Heaven and sing this song with angels 😇 above. Someday it is a glorious day to see most of all the Creator His Majesty Jesus Christ who died for my sins.
