Siouxsie Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Gotta know - I gotta know
How far below - can you go?
Double zero - double 0 - 0 - 0
Less then zero
Double 0

One mile below - One mile below
One mile below

Tell me when - Tell me when
Is it time to ascend to the top?
When it get so low
Only one way to go
Up up up up to the top

One mile above - One mile above
One mile above

Up up up up - Double up up up up
Up up up To the top
Up up up up - Double up up up up
Up up up To the top

You and I know - You and I know
Sometimes you loose
When you win
Double zero - double 0 - 0 - 0
Sometimes you win
When you loose

One mile below - One mile below
One mile below

Up up up up - Double up up up up
Up up up up - Double up up up up

Up up up up - Double up up up up
Up up up To the top

Overall Meaning

The song "One Mile Below" by Siouxsie Sioux explores the idea of reaching the lowest point possible and contemplating how much further down one can go. The repetition of "Double zero" and "Less than zero" suggests a journey into the negatives where there may be uncertainty and fear. One could interpret this as a metaphor for hitting rock bottom emotionally or experiencing a significant loss. The refrain of "One mile below" and "One mile above" creates a sense of duality, juxtaposing the extremes of top and bottom.

The lyrics also touch on the idea that sometimes in life, winning and losing are not always clear-cut. The lines "You and I know, sometimes you lose when you win / Double zero, sometimes you win when you lose" suggest that success and failure can be subjective and that what might feel like losing at first could turn out to be a win in the end.

The chorus of "Up up up up - Double up up up up / Up up up to the top" provides a sense of hope and determination, a call to keep pushing upward even when things seem bleak. The repetition of "double up" could be interpreted as a reminder to keep going even when it feels like there's nothing left.

Overall, "One Mile Below" is a contemplative song about the journey to rock bottom, the duality of extremes, and the hope for a way out.

I just meant the music.... Siouxsie and the banshees are my favourite band...just the music and the ''one by mile'' reminds me of Adam ant...

@totenkopfdivision

The new stuff sounds great but I have to agree with the others with reference to the live dates in London only. I don't know whether she think's she wouldn't sell out a medium size place elsewhere or can't be arsed.
