Here are the lyrics to her song "Ready to go home":
On this street below these walls
Where I used to walk now I can barely crawl
All this darkness rise and tall
Lord shine a light for me I’m ready to be caught
I’m ready to go home
I’m ready to receive forgiveness for my sins
I’m ready to begin
Take this river to the sea
Where the delta flows
The tide is washing over me
Guide this soul to heavens door
Show me where tomorrow lays
I’m waiting to be born
I’m ready to lay down
I’m ready now to sleep a promise I must keep
I’m ready to go home
So time I’ll lay down with these memories
Breathe the shallow deep inside of me
If time has run its course with me
I’m ready to go home
I’m ready to receive forgiveness for my sins
I’m ready to begin
When the evening shadows fall
When the time has come
I let defences fall
To surrenders to survive
I will give up everything to those I leave behind
I’m ready to go home
I’m ready to receive forgiveness for my sins
I’m ready to begin
I’m ready to lay down
I’m ready now to sleep a promise I must keep
I’m ready to go home, again
Going home again
You Raise Me Up

When troubles come and my heart burdened be
Then I am still and wait here in the silence
Until you come and sit awhile with me
You raise me up so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas
I am strong when I am on your shoulders
There is no life, no life without its hunger
Each restless heart beats so imperfectly
But when you come and I am filled with wonder
Sometimes I think I glimpse eternity
You raise me up so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas
I am strong when I am on your shoulders
You raise me up to more than I can be
You raise me up so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas
I am strong when I am on your shoulders
You raise me up to more than I can be
You raise me up to more than I can be
Sissel's song "You Raise Me Up" is a poignant tribute to the power of a supportive relationship to lift us up when we are feeling down. The opening lines of the song suggest a deep sense of weariness and burden, and a longing for comfort and connection. The image of waiting in silence for someone to come and sit beside us conjures a feeling of hopelessness and despair, but also of patience and willingness to receive help.
The chorus of the song is a powerful expression of the transformative power of a loving relationship. The lyrics describe being lifted up to stand on mountains and walk on stormy seas, symbolizing the ability to overcome even the greatest challenges and obstacles. The singer proclaims that she is strong when she is on "your" (presumably her partner's) shoulders, suggesting a deep sense of trust and vulnerability in the relationship. The final line of the chorus, "You raise me up to more than I can be," captures the idea that a supportive relationship can help us realize our full potential and become the best versions of ourselves.
The second verse of the song deepens this theme by acknowledging the inherent imperfection and restlessness of the human experience. The singer suggests that it is our hunger for something more that drives us forward, even though we may be imperfectly equipped to undertake the journey. But in the presence of a supportive partner, the singer is filled with wonder and glimpses eternity, suggesting that the power of a loving relationship can help us transcend our limitations and connect with something greater than ourselves.

One of the things I really love about Sissel is that she just sings. No pyrotechnics, no extra effects, etc. She just lets us enjoy her lovely voice. And she is always a lady, conducts herself with decorum and self-respect. You don't see that a lot of that these days, so I appreciate Sissel's sweetness doubly so.

She stands there, like a classic Grecian goddess, like Aphrodite herself. Then, she opens her mouth, and with her mesmerizing voice, her penetrating eyes, her magical smile, she brings herself, and the rest of us, to life! Perfection!
