Sizzla, along with reggae recording artists such as Capleton, Buju Banton, and Anthony B, are credited with leading a movement toward a re-embracement of Rastafarian values in contemporary reggae music by recording material which is concerned primarily with spirituality, social consciousness, explores common themes, such as Babylon's corrupting influence, the disenfranchisement of ghetto youth, oppression of the black nation and Sizzla's abiding faith in Jah and resistance against perceived agents of oppression. Sizzla has over 40 full completed albums sold in record stores to date, the most popular which have been "Black Woman & Child" and "Da Real Thing" on the Digital B label, "Praise Ye Jah" on Xterminator, and "Rise to the Occasion" on Greensleeves.
Recently, however, he has come under fire for the homophobic content of many of his lyrics, and the advocacy of violence against gays.

"Give Thanks" by Sizzla is a heartwarming song dedicated to his mother, where he praises and thanks her for always being there for him, showing him tender love and care. The song opens with Sizzla acknowledging his position as Emperor Selassie I's son and hearing his mother's voice calling, reminding him to be grateful for her love and care. The chorus emphasizes the gratitude and love Sizzla has for his mother, describing her as "lovely" and the only one who loves him always. He can never forget the tenderness she has shown him.
Sizzla then pledges to fulfill his mother's wishes and petitions, blesses the day with "wonderful bliss," and reminds the ghetto youth to take notice of the love and care of their mothers. Even when times get hard, Sizzla acknowledges that his mother never gave up and kept holding strong, acknowledging the hardships she faced as a single parent. He feels grateful that she has shouldered the responsibility of raising him with so much warmth and love. Sizzla says that without his mother, nobody would care for him, and he honors the bond they share, which is more valuable than any other.
In conclusion, "Give Thanks" is Sizzla's tribute to the love and care of a mother, acknowledging the sacrifices, tenderness, and warmth that only a mother can provide. It is a touching reminder of the importance of being grateful for the people who love us and to whom we owe our lives. The song is an excellent example of Sizzla's commitment to Rastafarianism and his deep faith in Jah.

Can you believe he was only 21 when he wrote this and the rest of his songs on Praise Ye Jah ? 21 years old and he demonstrated a level of depth, gratitude, wisdom and emotional sincerity that is hard to come by from most grown men in our generation. His songs are timeless.
Most (yes, there are exceptions I acknowledge that) 21 year old musicians in this generation (i'm 24 myself) would sooner sing about their favourite type of watch or alcoholic drink or some other slackness than anything so real. Its because decadent imorality has been promoted to the youths for too long, they think its the only way to make music. I hope we return to the days of consciousness.
