The Scientist
Skaar Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Come up to meet you, tell you I'm sorry
You don't know how lovely you are
I had to find you, tell you I need you
Tell you I set you apart
Tell me your secrets, ask me your questions
Oh, let's go back to the start
Running in circles, coming up tails
Heads on a science apart

Nobody said it was easy
It's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be this hard
Oh, take me back to the start, mmm

I was just guessing at numbers and figures
Pulling the puzzles apart
Questions of science, science and progress
Do not speak as loud as my heart
Tell me you love me, come back and haunt me
Oh, and I rush to the start
Running in circles, chasing our tails
Coming back as we are

Nobody said it was easy
Oh, it's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be so hard
I'm going back to the start, mmm

Ah-ah-ooh, mmm

Ah-ah-ooh, mmm
Ah-ah-ooh, mmm

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Skaar's song The Scientist can be seen as an apology or a reflection on a relationship that has gone wrong. The singer is expressing his regret and desire to go back to the beginning of the relationship when things were simpler and he did not take his significant other for granted. The lyrics "Come up to meet you, tell you I'm sorry" and "Nobody said it was easy, it's such a shame for us to part" suggest that the relationship has already ended, and the singer is looking back on it with regret. The line "I had to find you, tell you I need you, tell you I set you apart" shows that he realizes the importance of the relationship and the person he was with.

The song also has a scientific theme running through it. The lyrics "Questions of science, science and progress, do not speak as loud as my heart" show that despite the importance of science and progress, emotions and love are just as important. The imagery of "Running in circles, coming up tails, heads on a science apart" shows the dichotomy between the scientific world and the emotional world. The chorus "Nobody said it was easy, no one ever said it would be this hard" emphasizes the difficulty of balancing science and emotions in one's life.
