The debut album, Skank (1993), was successful around the underground circuit. The second album, "Calango", came out in 1994 . “É Proibido Fumar”, “Te Ver”, “Pacato Cidadão”, “Jackie Teckila” and “Esmola” were the biggest hits.
In 1996, “Garota Nacional”, the single of "O Samba Poconé" gave Skank international success. The band travelled around the world, performing in Latin America, United States and Europe. In 1998, FIFA included “É uma partida de futebol” in the official World Cup soundtrack album.
From 1998 to 2004, Skank recorded 5 more albums: Siderado (1998), Maquinarama (2000), MTV ao Vivo em Ouro Preto (2001), Cosmotron (2003) and Radiola (2004). As of 2004, they have sold yet approximately 5,000,000 copies.
The last album Carrossel (2006) has less sound effects than the other albums, improving the harmony between vocals and guitar. “Uma canção é pra isso” and “Mil acasos” quiclky became radio hits and video clips.
Band members: Samuel Rosa (vocal and guitar), Henrique Portugal (keyboard), Lelo Zanetti (bass), Haroldo Ferreti (drums).
Mil Acasos

O sábado, o signo, o carnaval
Mil acasos me tomam pela mão
A feira, o feriado nacional
Mil acasos me levam a perder
O senso, o ritmo habitual
Mil acasos me levam a você
Me levam a você
De um jeito desigual
Mil acasos apontam a direção
Desvios de rota é tão normal
Mil acasos me levam a você
No mundo concreto ou virtual
Me levam a você
De um jeito desigual
Quem sabe, então, por um acaso
Perdido no tempo ou no espaço
Seus passos queiram se juntar aos meus
Seus braços queiram se juntar aos meus
Mil acasos me levam a você
No início, no meio ou no final
Mil acasos me levam por aí
Na espuma do tempo, no temporal
Mil acasos me dizem o que sou
Ateu praticante, ocidental
Me levam a você
De um jeito desigual
Quem sabe, então, por um acaso
Perdido no tempo ou no espaço
Seus passos queiram se juntar aos meus
Seus braços queiram se juntar aos meus
The lyrics to Skank's song "Mil Acasos" describe the idea that chance occurrences, or "mil acasos", lead the singer to their love interest. The song seems to suggest that fate or destiny is at work, as these occurrences take the singer to different events like carnival and national holidays, and even take them off their usual rhythms. It's as if these chance moments are conspiring to bring them to the one they love, regardless of the circumstances.
The lyrics also express a certain amount of uncertainty about whether this connection will come to fruition, with the singer questioning whether their would-be lover's steps and arms might also find their way to them. This adds a layer of longing and hope to the song's message, as the singer seems unsure about the future but continues to follow the path that chance has laid out before them.
Overall, "Mil Acasos" is a romantic song that captures the feeling of fate at work in a relationship. It shows that even when things don't seem like they're lining up perfectly, the universe may still be working to bring two people together.
