Skarhead Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Can't live for tomorrow gotta live for today - Hardcore.
Still struggling to get by everyday - Hardcore.
And nobody can tell us what to do - Hardcore.
When we were down, where the fuck were you?
Trusted you, thought you were my friend, thought that you had my back until the end. We were down, feeling the pain, but you never came, punk, you never came
The song "Hardcore" by Skarhead is a high-energy, aggressive statement on the nature of hardcore music and the lifestyle it represents. It opens with a challenging tone, as the singer dismisses the value of experience and connections in the scene, insisting that it all comes down to being willing to fight and stand up for oneself. The chorus emphasizes the idea that living fully in the present moment is essential, and that life is a constant battle. This is the essence of the hardcore ethos--rejecting mainstream society's expectations of conformity and passivity, and instead finding strength in one's own power and determination.
The second verse is a scathing attack on a former friend who has proven himself unworthy of the singer's trust. The friend is accused of being a fair-weather ally, only present during good times and abandoning the singer during hardship. This is another common theme in hardcore music--the importance of loyalty and the betrayal that feels especially painful in a close-knit subculture.
Overall, "Hardcore" is a forceful statement of the ideals that have driven the hardcore music scene since its inception. It celebrates toughness, resilience, and the refusal to be beaten down by life's challenges.
