The name "Skepta" originated from the word Sceptre, a type of staff. He did not like the way it was spelt and felt that he wanted a unique stage name so 'that he could type "Skepta" in YouTube and only he would come up.' So, he changed it.
Skepta started his music career after he won a MC battle with over 300 people contesting beating Tempa T in the final. He also formed a partnership with his brother JME and became renowned throughout Greater London for his hit single (he also produced), "Private Caller" which featured many of his Meridian Crew from Meridian Walk in Tottenham.
Skepta (Managing Director) along with brother JME (CEO), began their grime label Boy Better Know in late 2005. The phrase "Boy Better Know" was originated by Big H the artist.
This phrase was then taken by Skepta and JME. Early 2006 saw the release of 'Shut Yuh Mut' - Boy Better Know Edition 1 which features all 3 artists and throughout the years has contributed and aided many other artists such as Frisco and Wiley to put out mixtapes, along with JME (4 mixtapes) and Skepta's September 2007 release 'Greatest Hits', which was distributed nationwide.
However now, Wiley left because he found mainstream chart success with Roll Deep, a crew that he co-founded and has enjoyed two number one hit singles with on the UK Top 40 Chart. He also had an ongoing 'beef' with Skepta, with both artists creating diss tracks, Wiley's 'Barnet' and Skepta's 'House in the Country' were both uploaded onto YouTube by both artists. However, this 'beef' was later proved to be false, as Skepta has stated in interviews, over Twitter, and whilst appearing on Ustream.
Skepta has released three singles off his third studio album, Doin' It Again (first with a major label). Titled "Bad Boy", "Rescue Me" and "Cross My Heart" featuring Preeya Kalidas, as well as a video for the Hello Good Morning (Grime Remix).
All singles charted in the Top 40 of the UK Singles Chart, with "Rescue Me" being the most successful at number 14. The chart position of "Cross My Heart" was fairly disappointing coming in at number 31 and dropping out of the Top 40 a week later, bearing in mind it had the most promotion out of any of the tracks. After the success of his first single "Bad Boy", Skepta's videos were removed from his own channel and promoted through All Around The World (a division of Universal Records).
His tracks were also premiered on the official website of the label.
It is expected that "Doin' It Again" will be either released on or in partnership with All Around The World records, scheduled for a release of 31 January 2011 for digital download and on 7 February 2011 as a CD.

I tell you
I'm a man who believes that I died twenty years ago
And I live like a man who is dead already
I have no fear whatsoever of anybody or anything
We don't need no security
Stones in my jewellery, what can they do to me?
If I survive then I'm comin' for you personally (Damn son! Where'd you find this?)
You heard of me
We don't need no security
Stones in my jewellery, what can they do to me?
You murder me I will live for eternity
If I survive then I'm comin' for you personally
Down the fucking drain
Fake celebrities I will not entertain
No similarities definitely not the same
Their insecurities got jealousy on the brain
Dare to go to war with me then my people bring pain
And I can do the story mode beginner or insane
Shotty for the back blocks or a spinner for the mains
You're lookin' at your reflection you hate what you became
That selfish energy a cranberry stain
Sitting inside my house with a candle and a flame
Working voodoo on you pussies trying to throw faeces on my name
I saw the bigger picture put 'em all in my frame
To see they're very weak these guys are super lame
I see you pushing weights oh now you're doing gains
But before the creatine you were tucking in all your chains
See them at the fashion shows never see them on the train
I keep the voodoo with me I suggest you do the same
We don't need no security
Stones in my jewellery, what can they do to me?
You murder me I will live for eternity
If I survive then I'm comin' for you personally
You heard of me
We don't need no security
Stones in my jewellery, what can they do to me?
You murder me I will live for eternity
If I survive then I'm comin' for you personally

In Skepta's song 'No Security,' the rapper communicates his strong sense of self-confidence and fearlessness. The lyrics are a powerful statement about his inner strength and refusal to live in a state of fear. Skepta proclaims that he believes he died 20 years ago and lives like a man who is already dead, expressing an almost nihilistic outlook on life. This belief appears to have allowed him to live without fear of anyone or anything.
Skepta also addresses his status in the music industry, calling out "fake celebrities" who are "definitely not the same" as him. He appears to relish the idea of going to war and facing off against those who would dare to challenge him, warning that his "people" will retaliate with pain. He also references the idea of voodoo, suggesting that he has the power to place curses on his enemies and protect himself from harm.
Overall, 'No Security' is a powerful expression of Skepta's self-confidence, his willingness to take on any challenge, and his belief in his ability to transcend death itself.

The worst thing about every grime video on YouTube is the shower of inept fucking muppets who think they're above everyone else because they've been listening to Dizzee and Wiley since 2001. Nobody fucking cares if you've been a grime head since day one pussy, Skepta is international now and the new fans are gonna keep growing exponentially until the bubble bursts. Get off your high horse and enjoy the music for what it is, or don't and fuck off seriously devilman ting
