Kill Me
Skillet Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Break my bones and reset me piece by piece.
You break me, pick up the cross cause it's killing time.
Hey, hey, hey, how can I scream when the pain is such a release?
I get the courage to pick up the nails cause it's killing time.

[Chorus]
Kill me, heal me.
Kill me, heal me on and on.
Kill me, heal me.
Kill me, heal me on and on.

Breathing your love, you're ferocious, you're in my lungs.
Resuscitate, craving your electricity.
Hey, hey, hey, feet to my pain, you give wings to my fear.
Your peace inhabits my blood. Your love is thick.

[Chorus]
I can't live without it. I can't live without it.
I can't live without it. I can't live without it.

[Chorus: x2]

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Skillet's song "Kill Me" are intense and thought-provoking, touching on themes of pain, love, fear, and redemption. The song begins with the line, "Break my bones and reset me piece by piece," which speaks to the idea of being broken down in order to be rebuilt anew. Despite the pain of this process, the singer acknowledges that it is necessary - "You break me, pick up the cross cause it's killing time." The phrase "killing time" suggests that this is a moment of intense transformation, a time when the old self must die in order for something new to be born.

The chorus repeats the lines, "Kill me, heal me. Kill me, heal me on and on," emphasizing the cyclical nature of the process of transformation. The singer recognizes that this is not a one-time event, but rather an ongoing journey. The idea of being killed and healed at the same time speaks to the paradox of transformation - sometimes we must be broken down in order to be built back up again.

In the second verse, the singer references "breathing your love," and the idea that it is "ferocious" and "in my lungs." This suggests a deep, all-consuming love that fills every part of the singer's being. The phrase "craving your electricity" suggests that this love is powerful and energizing. The singer acknowledges that there is still pain and fear - "feet to my pain, you give wings to my fear" - but that this love is ultimately stronger, and brings a sense of peace.

Overall, the lyrics to "Kill Me" speak to the idea of transformation and growth through pain and love. The song suggests that sometimes we must be broken down in order to be rebuilt, and that love has the power to heal even the deepest wounds.

In my opinion this is one of their worst (kill) and best (heal) songs:

The guitar and bass are badass in this song (which is the main reason i keep listening, for the instrumentals). But the constant gaps in the chorus are really distracting. The beginning vocals sound like speakers underwater and honestly it takes away from the song. The part before the chorus is like the beginning. The scratches in the sound are also not necessary. The vibrating vocals are also distracting. But still the premise of the song is cool.

Also Atomic Skull anyone?
