Marley was born in Kingston, Jamaica to Cedella Marley and David Minto, and raised in Miami, Florida.[1][2] Growing up, he taught himself to play the piano, drums, guitar, and bass.[3]
In 2015, he released his first single, "Cry to Me", and a second single called "Life" under the Tuff Gong label. He later signed with Blue Mountain Music, and joined his uncles Damian and Stephen on their Catch a Fire tour.
In early 2016, he was featured in a Gap 1969 Denim campaign.
In early 2017, Skip Marley signed to Island Records. Island's President and CEO, David Massey, called Marley's talent "extraordinary", adding that "his music reflects what the world needs right now." Marley released his debut single under Island Records, "Lions", in February 2017.

The lyrics of "Enemy" by Skip Marley portray the struggles of living in a world with frenemies and enemies trying to steal your energy and put you down. The song talks about the moments of life when we face setbacks and the people who take advantage of our weaknesses. The artist mentions his childhood memories when his mother warned him about encountering deceitful people who showed love and affection but had selfish intentions. The lyrics highlight the importance of being true to oneself and not letting anyone take away our potential to succeed.
The verse "Through the struggles and the troubles no one give you bly, They knock we down, they knock we up without reason or rhyme" shows how life can be unfair with hardships we face that can leave us feeling alone and helpless. However, the artist suggests that we should never give up and always continue to seek hope and therapy to get through the difficult times. The chorus repeats asking why do people try to put one down or take away one's success.
Overall, "Enemy" is a song that reflects the emotions and feeling of a person who's been through difficult times, encountered deceitful people and persevered through it all. It encourages individuals to keep pushing through hardships, stay focused on their goals and beware of those who try to bring them down.
