Mills was born and raised in Harlem, New York to his father, a therapist, and his mother, who operated two daycare centers in Manhattan. He attended an all-boys school St. Bernard's School during his elementary years and later graduated from the Browning School. Mills attended Union College to originally pursue a sports journalism major, but he dropped out ten weeks after starting classes to begin his rapping career.
Throughout high school, Skiz made a few raps here and there, although he never thought they would take him anywhere.
However, as a high school senior, he realized that rap was what he wanted to pursue. He threw away his dreams of becoming a sports analyst and even his college diploma to write songs. With heavily supportive parents, Skizzy was able to hone his skills without giving up on his dreams.
After releasing a few projects, including American Psycho EP, Phases, and Pace, he debuted his first major EP. The Red Balloon Project was dropped in 2015, and it received a fair amount of buzz on the internet, even hitting #35 on the Billboard 200. It gave him a few minor hits such as “Be Lazy,” and “Do You There.”
In 2016, Skizzy delivered his debut studio album, Alone Together, with appearances from Jojo, Olivver The Kid, and more. This album gave off a more emotional feel, with tracks like “Girl On A Train” and “Comb.”
Recently, Mars announced his next album, are you OK, which was released in 2018, using a mini-documentary. He explained this album as “a more honest and raw description of my life.”

Numb
Skizzy Mars Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Take it to the door
It's you on the guest list
You plus four, make sure you bring in some bad bitches
I'd be sleeping on the bus, got me soared
Or about the? smoking blunt,
Now can we just turn something that was great
Had me waking up this daylight, damn
Last I really hope it does
Usually I don't
Usually it won't
All we need is a little push
We scared of it, we scared of us
My feelings we can barely trust
These boose got us in paradise
I don't think we're in love
That's just the drugs
They can make you feel numb
You can't feel at all
Maybe if we loved ourselves
It wouldn't be so hard
It wouldn't be so hard
To love each other!
I don't think we're in love
That's just the drugs
They can make you feel numb
You can't feel at all
Maybe if we loved ourselves
It wouldn't be so hard
It wouldn't be so hard
To love each other!
More rounds more rounds
That's what we're telling numb
Slow down slow down
That's what they're telling us
But the bar's closed at four
And it's only one thirty
Why we stopped so early?
Finally got a taxi – mumbling your ati
Fighting over a girl named abigail or maddie
Or maybe it was ashley
Maybe it was gaby
But only you could knew
€˜cause you're the only one that matter
Maybe you shouldn't date a rapper,
?
I just wanna live it up
Call you my distant love
We get so distant from each other
Maybe she's got a sister numb
She just really like to talk shit
She don't wanna listen much
Shouldn't this be easier!
I don't think we're in love
That's just the drugs
They can make you feel numb
You can't feel at all
Maybe if we loved ourselves
It wouldn't be so hard
It wouldn't be so hard
To love each other!
I don't think we're in love
That's just the drugs
They can make you feel numb
You can't feel at all
Maybe if we loved ourselves
It wouldn't be so hard
It wouldn't be so hard
To love each other!
I'm so slow-mo(tion)
Stumble and fall in
I guess you could call me an alcoholic
I'm not sober, and I'm not over you, you you yeah!
I'm so slow-mo(tion)
Stumble and fall in
I guess you could call me an alcoholic
I'm not sober, and I'm not over you, you you yeah!
I don't think we're in love
That's just the drugs
They can make you feel numb
You can't feel at all
Maybe if we loved ourselves
It wouldn't be so hard
It wouldn't be so hard
To love each other!
I don't think we're in love
That's just the drugs
They can make you feel numb
You can't feel at all
Maybe if we loved ourselves
It wouldn't be so hard
It wouldn't be so hard
To love each other!
Skizzy Mars's song Numb highlights the sad reality of how drugs and alcohol can impact a person's self-love and relationships. The song begins by depicting a party scene where the singer is on the guest list and is trying to have a good time by bringing in beautiful girls. However, the singer feels hollow inside due to the drugs that he is consuming, which is rendering him numb to the world. While he acknowledges that he knows it is just the drugs talking, his feelings are too unreliable to call them love. The second verse talks about how the singer and his partner keep fighting over trivial matters after drinking and feeling numb, leading to a significant communication gap between them. They don't seem to be neither in love nor happy, and the singer acknowledges that if they could love themselves better, things would be a lot easier. The final hook reiterates that it is the drugs, and not love, that has made them numb and that they should love themselves to love each other.
Skizzy Mars's song Numb talks about the harsh reality of what drugs and alcohol can do to relationships and self-esteem. It highlights that self-love, trust, and communication are a vital aspect of having a stable, healthy relationship. However, when drugs and alcohol come into the picture, it can create emotional voids and conflicts that can be challenging to overcome. The inability to communicate effectively, diminishing trust, and self-loathing are some of the common challenges that relationships face when battling addiction, which the song captures remarkably well.
