Skuggsjá
Skuggsjá Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Tid er å teie
Til togna tru seg
I spegelen spyrje
I spegelen sjå

Høgt me har klatra – i rotrlaust tre
Høgt me har timbra – på grunlaus voll
Tåka tetnar – alt er kvitt
Tåka tetnar – alt er svart

Skuggsjá – eg ser deg i meg
Stien klarnar
i atturljom – du visar veg
togna talar

Skuggsjá – eg ser deg i meg
Viljen vakar
I atturljom – du visar veg
Hugen hugsar

Tid er å tale
Tre ut or tåka
For sanninga stride
For sanninga stå

Hugs han som tvinga si truMed kross og kniv
Hugs han som tvinga si tru
Med sverd og svik

Med tusen års styrke – eg seier
Med tusen års styrke – eg syng
Skuggsjá – eg ser deg i meg
KVIL I NID
I atturljom – du visar veg
KVIL I NID
Skuggsjá – eg ser deg i meg

I atturljom – du visar veg
KVIL I NID

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Skuggsjá's song Skuggsjá are a call to introspection and reflection. The first verse speaks of the need to be silent and listen to oneself, to look in the mirror and ask oneself the tough questions. The second verse describes the achievements of humanity, symbolized by climbing the tree and building on a foundationless surface. However, the fog descends and everything becomes white or black, perhaps suggesting uncertainty and the unpredictability of the future.

The chorus shifts the focus to the importance of acknowledging one's shadow self, represented by the word "skuggsjá" which means "mirror" or "reflection". The shadow self is a concept in psychology that refers to the parts of oneself that are repressed or denied but still exist beneath the surface. By recognizing and embracing one's shadow, one can gain insight and clarity about their true desires and motivations. The final verse urges the listener to speak out and fight for truth, referring to the historical atrocities committed in the name of religion.

Overall, Skuggsjá's song Skuggsjá is a thought-provoking piece that encourages self-reflection and introspection, while acknowledging the complexities and contradictions of human nature.

time to be silent
the stillness to confine
in the mirror ask
in the mirror seek

high we have climbed - in a rootless tree
high we have built - on baseless grounds

The foggy mist thickens - all is white
The foggy mist thickens - all is black

Mirror - I see you in me
the path becomes clearer
by echoes - you show the way
silence speaks
Mirror - I see you in me
the will awakens
in echoes - you show the way
the mind remembers

It's time to speak
step out of the foggy mist
fight for the truth
stand up for the truth

remember he who forced his beliefs
with cross and blade
remember he who forced his beliefs
with sword and deceit

with strength of one thousand years - I say
with strength of one thousand years - I sing

Mirror - I see you in me
REST IN BELITTLEMENT
In echoes you show the way
REST IN BELITTLEMENT
Mirror - I see you in me
REST IN BELITTLEMENT
In echoes you show the way
REST IN BELITTLEMENT

2022 and i´m here! Listening that song at least once a week! Eternal song, that never got out-to-date!

This music is incredible, it's coming from the heart, as if it is being fearlessly torn out of the singer's chest to show the world the depth of feelings.

It's even beyond from what you can expect by two musical geniuses working together.
Perfect and enchanting, can't wait for the full album.

wow. this is going to be my album of the year.

Absolute highlight of the album. Two reasons: good old tagelharpa in it's coldest, most aggressive fashion. The other reason being the nostalgic riff, which has led me to believe I shouldn't be judging someone by his band's name. Ivar is just as brilliant as Einar is. Look at them both: Kvitrafn being known as a member of Gorgoroth, a band so infantile I couldn't stand being within earshot of it. Then we have Ivar's Enslaved, a masterpiece, but definitely not my genre.
And both composers have earned my deepest love and respect.
