Blood
Skulls Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I want it, to be over
Turn the boat around and bring that girl in
I stumble through the error
Hope deferred makes the heart sick sick sick
The circle, rules and ruins
Yet again we are on our own
I don't need your opinions
What I got is alright

I know you're bleeding baby,
But you're not bleeding blood
Blood

I need it, you never show me
Keep it in the back seat nice and sharp
Uneasy, in the daytime
How'd you feel alive if you cannot climb in
We aim to, make a difference
Get a sense of meaning from our time here
I don't need, your opinions
What I got is alright

I know you're bleeding baby

I know you're bleeding baby
But you're not bleeding blood

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Skulls's song Blood seem to be quite cryptic at first glance - they are disjointed and comprised of a number of different phrases that don't seem to be connected. However, upon closer inspection, there seems to be a common theme of dissatisfaction and a desire for change. The opening lines "I want it, to be over/ Turn the boat around and bring that girl in" suggest a desire to move on from whatever the singer is currently going through. They want to change direction and bring something positive into their lives.

The next lines, "I stumble through the error/ Hope deferred makes the heart sick sick sick" seem to suggest that the singer has made mistakes in the past and is now dealing with the consequences. They are feeling disillusioned and perhaps even despairing, but still holding onto some hope for the future. The line "The circle, rules and ruins/Yet again we are on our own" seems to speak to a feeling of being caught in a cycle of unfulfillment, where the rules that govern society or the singer's own life seem to be limiting them.

Throughout the song, the singer seems to assert their own agency and independence, stating "I don't need your opinions/ What I got is alright". The repeated refrain "I know you're bleeding baby/ But you're not bleeding blood" is a particularly striking one - it suggests that the pain the singer is feeling is emotional rather than physical, and that they are trying to push through it and find a sense of peace. Overall, the lyrics of Blood seem to be about the struggle for self-determination in the face of difficulty and the search for meaning and fulfillment.
