We Swim Sideways

But have we come to this
All we ever had
We lost back there
But I can't even tell just how far it is
Or how long the drive
Into this world it's all but recompense
All we have is saving grace
We've made this raft subside
So we're forced to wade from side to side
I know your love is deep and wide
The song We Swim Sideways by Sky's The Limit is a ballad about the realities of life and its consequences. The line "We swim sideways but have we come to this" is an introspective opening that calls for reflection on the course of life. It suggests that despite moving forward, we might have deviated from the right path, and distance travelled does not equate to progress made. The song speaks to the lost opportunities, relationships and connections that people encounter along the way.
The verse, "All we ever had, we lost back there, but I can't even tell just how far it is," is a reflection on what has been lost and the challenges of moving forward. This verse suggests that in the pursuit of life's ambitions, we sometimes discard the precious things that make us who we are. The lyrics, "Into this world, it's all but recompense, all we have is saving grace," reveal the harshness of the world we live in, with few rewards for the hard work we put in. But despite that, there is always hope, and that grace can provide a way out.
The chorus, "Gone away mandate never the same, we've made this raft subside, so we're forced to wade from side to side, I know your love is deep and wide," highlights the challenges of life and the love that can be found when we encounter difficulties. The song helps to remind listeners to be reflective, to remember what is important, and to keep moving forward despite obstacles that may come our way.

All we have is saving grace
We must rely on the mercy and favor of others in order to survive
Gone away mandate never the same
We have lost our original mission and can never return to it
We've made this raft subside
