Part of Your World
Skye Sweetnam Lyrics

Look at this stuff, isn't it neat?
Wouldn't you think my collection's complete?
Wouldn't you think I'm the girl
The girl who has ev'rything?

Look at this trove, treasures untold
How many wonders can one cavern hold?
Lookin' around here you'd think
Sure, she's got everything

I've got gadgets and gizmos aplenty
I've got whozits and whatzits galore
You want thingamabobs?
I got twenty but who cares?
No big deal, I want more

I wanna be where the people are
I wanna see, wanna see 'em dancin'
Walkin' around on those
Whad'ya call 'em? Oh, feet

Flippin' your fins you don't get too far
Legs are required for jumpin', dancin'
Strollin' along down a
What's that word again? Street

Up where they walk, up where they run
Up where they stay all day in the sun
Wanderin' free, wish I could be
Part of your world

What would I give, if I could live
Outta these waters? What would I pay
To spend a day warm on the sand?
Betcha on land, they understand

Bet they don't reprimand their daughters
Bright young women, sick o' swimmin'
Ready to stand

And I'm ready to know what the people know
Ask 'em my questions and get some answers
What's a fire and why does it
What's the word? Burn

When's it my turn? Wouldn't I love
Love to explore the shore up above?
Out of the sea, wish I could be

Part of that world, part of that world
Part of that world, part of your world
Part of your world

I wanna be where the people are
I wanna see, wanna see 'em dancin'
Walkin' around on those
Whad'ya call 'em? Oh, feet

Flippin' your fins you don't get too far
Legs are required for jumpin', dancin'
Strollin' along down a
What's that word again? Street

Up where they walk, up where they run
Up where they stay all day in the sun

Wanderin' free, wish I could be
Part of your world

Overall Meaning

"Part of Your World" is a song from the 1989 Disney animated film "The Little Mermaid". The lyrics are sung by the film's main character Ariel, who is a mermaid longing to be part of the human world. The opening lines set the stage for the song, as Ariel shows off her collection of human things and bemoans the fact that it's not enough to satisfy her curiosity about the outside world. She longs to experience the sights, sounds, and experiences of human life.

The second verse features Ariel exploring a hidden cave full of treasures, wondering how much more there is to discover in the world above. She boasts about her many gadgets and gizmos, but dismisses their value in the grand scheme of things. Ariel wants to break free from the limitations of her underwater world and traverse the shore, where she believes there is much more to life. The song continues as Ariel's desire to be part of the human world grows stronger, as she imagines how much better life would be if she could stand on two legs instead of flippers.

The song is a poignant expression of Ariel's desires and dreams, set to a uniquely catchy tune that has become a classic Disney song loved by young and old alike. It captures the universal feeling of wanting to belong, explore, and experience new things. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of the character and her struggles, making it a song that is both relatable and memorable.

I LOVE THIS VERSION!!

@scr1231

She has a good voice.

@wizardwarrior713

Granted that this version doesn't have the wistful tone that the original beautifully had. But it's still pretty cool and works cuz it's singing about a dream, and mostly the dream is optimistic and exciting. The original was a "if only" feel; this is a "I can't wait til this happens" feel.

@MissPop96
