Middle Of A Moment
Skylar Astin Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Then I don't need one watching over me
A family doesn't make you sleep outside
A family doesn't laugh and say you lie
Remember what a home is
Think of how your life should be
But you're stuck in the middle of a moment
Only steps away, the world's okay
But you can't see that far
Stuck in the middle of a moment
That's halfway to somewhere new
Can't go back
You're moving through
You'll have to think in ways you never thought
You'll have to make the best of what you've got
Find the answers hiding in between
See a door that no one's ever seen
Something's there you feel it
Stop to look it's all around
So you're stuck in the middle of a moment
No clear path no shining star
Just a step away the world's okay
So try to see that far
And there in the middle of a moment
You're halfway to somewhere new
Can't go back
Keep moving through
‘Cause there is magic
Now you know
You made magic
Made it grow
And marvelous, wonderful things can come true
In the middle of a moment
In the middle of a moment
In the middle of a moment
You're on your way
The first verse of Skylar Astin's "Middle of a moment" reveals a deep underlying tension and hint of disappointment towards family. The lyrics imply that the songwriter feels let down by his family, as they have treated him poorly, to the point where he does not need a family watching over him at all. Family is supposed to be a place of comfort and protection, but the writer's family has failed him, causing endless pain and instilling a deep sense of mistrust. The lyrics urge listeners to consider what a home really is, and what kind of life they ought to aspire to.
The chorus of "Middle of a moment" highlights a feeling of being stuck, unable to see beyond one's immediate circumstances. Although the real world is just steps away, it feels light-years away. The lyrics suggest an overwhelming sense of claustrophobia and entrapment, where one feels unable to break out of their current state. The words "Can't go back, you're moving through" signify a sense of urgency and determination, where one must soldier forward, despite not knowing what lies ahead.
In the second verse, the song suggests that people need to start thinking outside of the box, that they will have to make the most of what they have, and this might mean utilizing their intuition to see things that others might not. The lyrics encourage you to have faith in the unknown, to risk taking a leap of faith because there is always something worth exploring, and you never know what you may find. The final chorus reinforces the earlier sentiments about feeling stuck but hints at the clarity that can come when you create something new.
