Glass Ceilings
Skyzoo Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Figure its a clock work orange how I'm pardoned wit the top of it
Leave it up to me to see the bottomless,
bottom is
Meaning what the moral or the object of the riding is
Told 'em all before, no Radames, riding with
couple dreams in a duffle
Damier's all around it
, guess a dream might run you
And the run's a 100 yarder, the dash mite barter
And you tryna shake a Dash like a Carter
I'm tryna play the back as a starter, the irony in that
Wanting all of it but wanting no part of the react
I react like, all we ever wanted was to be up
Nobody could guard us but regardless they should lead us?
Still playing ringer, told me chill while they king him
Background live or die, they can still raise a finger
Those around us can see the same tent
Windex the roof, it only makes sense
It's all glass ceilings
High enough to let up
Low enough to feel it
Blowing thru the ceiling
Looking for it 'til its all said
And then it feels like when they killed Cornbread
Or Cochise
or Voletta's son
The common thread?, its prolly better if you never run
Or find a ledge that you can level if they ever come
I'm 'bout this bread, God bless you if I'm ever shunned
Say I took it just the way that I was taught to
You wait and you'll be laid when they applaud you
You say that if I lost you there's nothing left to seek out
I say that if I lost you, you wasn't supposed to be found, so we out
We out, outside living like this outside living wasn't out the side limits
Or living like the roof up above us wasn't loose enough to touch us
Mu'fuckas wasn't true enough to love us
And all of those around us can see the same tent
Windex the roof, it only makes sense
Big money in my sentence
Sleep ain't what it was, it come a little different

If we can't cover up then cut a little distance
Each and everyone of us just want it how we live it

Overall Meaning

In "Glass Ceilings," Skyzoo talks about breaking barriers that limit success, hence the title "Glass Ceilings." The first few lines of the song describe how he is unmatched in his ability to understand and navigate the complex terrain of the music industry. He talks about how he can see the bottomless bottom of the industry and how he can decipher its hidden objectives. He mentions that he has told everyone before about the hidden motives but still finds himself riding with a couple of dreams in a duffle bag while trapped in that very system.

Skyzoo then describes his desire to play the background while still being a vital part of the game. Although he wants it all, something within him wants no part of the reaction. He reveals his conflicting thoughts about the system, acknowledging that everybody he knows only ever wanted to be up, but nobody could guard them, even though they deserved to lead.

Line by Line Meaning

Figure its a clock work orange how I'm pardoned wit the top of it
I feel like I'm in a weird situation but still have the upper hand, kind of like a character in the movie A Clockwork Orange.

Leave it up to me to see the bottomless, bottom is
I always manage to find the deeper meaning or truth in any situation, even if it seems hopeless.

Meaning what the moral or the object of the riding is
I'm questioning what the point of all this hustle and ambition is, whether it has any moral value in the end.

Told 'em all before, no Radames, riding with a couple dreams in a duffle
I've told everyone about my goals and aspirations, and I'm carrying them with me like precious cargo.

Damier's all around it, guess a dream might run you
My dreams are all encompassing and may consume me if I'm not careful, like the iconic Damier pattern on Louis Vuitton bags.

And the run's a 100 yarder, the dash mite barter And you tryna shake a Dash like a Carter
I'm on a long journey towards my goals, and I'm willing to sacrifice in order to get there. I don't want to be like Dame Dash, who had to make deals and negotiate his way to success like Jay-Z did.

I'm tryna play the back as a starter, the irony in that Wanting all of it but wanting no part of the react
I want to be behind the scenes, but I still want to be the one making things happen. I want the success but not the attention or backlash that comes with it.

I react like, all we ever wanted was to be up Nobody could guard us but regardless they should lead us?
We just wanted to succeed and be on top, but even if we have the potential to lead, others still try to control our fate.

Still playing ringer, told me chill while they king him Background live or die, they can still raise a finger
People underestimate me and tell me to relax while they crown someone else as the king. The background noise or opinions can still have an impact on your life.

Those around us can see the same tent Windex the roof, it only makes sense It's all glass ceilings
Everyone can see the same obstacles in our path, so it's important to clear the way and clean the glass ceiling blocking our view of success.

High enough to let up Low enough to feel it Blowing thru the ceiling Looking for it 'til its all said And then it feels like when they killed Cornbread Or Cochise or Voletta's son
The glass ceiling is just high enough to make us work hard, but low enough to make us feel the struggle as we try to break through it. When we finally succeed, we feel the same sense of loss as when famous characters in movies like Cornbread, Cochise or Voletta's son were killed.

The common thread?, its prolly better if you never run Or find a ledge that you can level if they ever come
There's a common theme of not running from your problems, but instead finding a way to rise above it, like finding a ledge to even the playing field if someone comes to attack you.

I'm 'bout this bread, God bless you if I'm ever shunned Say I took it just the way that I was taught to You wait and you'll be laid when they applaud you
I'm all about making money, and if people turn their back on me, so be it. I'm just following the path I was taught to take. If you wait for others to give you approval, you'll be left in the dust when they finally do.

You say that if I lost you there's nothing left to seek out I say that if I lost you, you wasn't supposed to be found, so we out
You think that I need you in order to find success, but I don't believe that. If we lose each other, it's okay because we weren't meant to be together in the first place. We're moving on.

We out, outside living like this outside living wasn't out the side limits Or living like the roof up above us wasn't loose enough to touch us
We're moving on from our past struggles, and now living in a way that we didn't think was possible before. We're reaching for the roof, even if it seems impossible to touch.

Mu'fuckas wasn't true enough to love us And all of those around us can see the same tent Windex the roof, it only makes sense
People were never really loyal or true to us, but it's important for us to keep our perspective clear and clean the glass ceiling blocking our way to success.

Big money in my sentence Sleep ain't what it was, it come a little different If we can't cover up then cut a little distance
I'm talking in terms of big money now, and I'm sacrificing my sleep to make it. If we can't hide from our struggles, then we need to make some distance from it in order to keep moving forward.

Each and everyone of us just want it how we live it
We all want to live our lives in a way that's true to who we are and what we believe in.
