Their debut album, It's Five O'Clock Somewhere, was released in 1995. For the supporting tour, Slash enlisted James LoMenzo and Brian Tichy, of Pride & Glory, in place of Inez and Sorum, who had other commitments. They played shows in the US, Europe, Japan and Australia before Geffen Records pulled their financial support for the tour, with Slash returning to Guns N' Roses and Slash's Snakepit disbanding.
Following his departure from Guns N' Roses in 1996, Slash formed the cover band Slash's Blues Ball. After a tour in 1997, Slash approached Blues Ball bassist Johnny Griparic about forming a new lineup of Slash's Snakepit. The new lineup consisted of Slash, Griparic, singer Rod Jackson, guitarist Ryan Roxie, and drummer Matt Laug (Roxie and Laug were both former members of Alice Cooper's solo band). They recorded and released their second album, entitled Ain't Life Grand, in 2000, which was preceded by a tour supporting AC/DC and followed by their own headlining tour. For the tour, Keri Kelli joined the group in place of Ryan Roxie, who departed following the completion of the album. However, after the final show, Slash disbanded Snakepit due to a lack of commitment from his band members. Shortly after, Slash formed Velvet Revolver in 2002, along with drummer and fellow Guns N' Roses member Matt Sorum.

That you're so far away from me and I'm all alone
Even when you're standing next to me
Deep inside, I feel you want to go free
I wanted you eternally
I see the truth, now that you've lied to me
It takes me from you
I feel it stop my beating heart, with every little thing you do
It tears me apart, please make it stop and be mine again
So we can take it right back to the moment
Where we start again
And baby, you say you already know
But you won't ever understand
What it's like to feel you slippin' away from me
I'm down on my knees
Even though I tried to carry on
Deep inside, I feel like I'm the only one
I wanted you eternally, but I see the truth
Now that you've lied to me
Oh and you lie to me
Can't you see that the pain breaks me in two
It takes me from you
I feel it stop my beating heart, with every little thing you do
It tears me apart, please make it stop and be mine again
So we can take it right back to the moment
Where we start again
I feel like you're taking away
My everything, my everything
Cause everything you say and do
It's like your playing a part
When the curtain finally closes
I wonder if you're going to take a bow
Before you break my heart, before you break my heart
Now listen to me
Can't you see that the pain breaks me in two
It takes me from you
I feel it stop my beating heart, with every little thing you do
It tears me apart, please make it stop and be mine again
So we can take it right back to the moment
"Back To The Moment" by Slash's Snakepit is a song about the pain of a relationship that is falling apart. The lyrics speak to the desperation and heartbreak that the singer feels as they try to hold onto their partner. The chorus "Can't you see that the pain breaks me in two, it takes me from you" conveys the sense of being torn apart by the emotional agony of the situation. The singer pleads for their partner to come back to them so they can "take it right back to the moment, where we start again." The song ends on a somber note, with the singer wondering if their partner will break their heart before walking away.
One interpretation of the song is that it is about trying to recapture the feeling of love and connection that the couple once shared. The line "So we can take it right back to the moment where we start again" suggests that the singer wants to go back to a time when things were good between them. However, the partner is resistant and seems to be pulling away, causing the singer immense pain. The second verse suggests that the partner is not living up to the singer's expectations and is "playing a part" in the relationship. This may indicate that the partner is not being true to themselves or to the singer, which is causing further strain on the relationship.
Overall, "Back To The Moment" is a poignant portrayal of the pain and heartbreak that can come with a failing relationship. The singer's desperate attempts to hold onto their partner and recapture what they have lost is a universal human experience that many can relate to.
