Paradise City
Slash Lyrics

Take me down to the paradise city
Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty
Oh, won't you please take me home

Take me down to the paradise city
Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty
Take me home Oh, won't you please take me home
Just an urchin livin' under the street,
I'm a hard case that's tough to beat
I'm your charity case, so buy me somethin' to eat,
I'll pay you at another time
Take it to the end of the line

Ragz to richez or so they say,
Ya gotta-keep pushin' for the fortune and fame
It's all a gamble when it's just a game,
Ya treat it like a capital crime
Everybody's doing their time

Take me down to the paradise city
Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty
Oh, won't you please take me home

Take me down to the paradise city
Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty
Take me home

Strapped in the chair of the city's gas chamber
Why I'm here I can't quite remember
The surgeon general says it's hazardous to breathe
I'd have another cigarette but I can't see
Tell me who you're gonna believe

Take me down to the paradise city
Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty
Take me home, yeah

Take me down to the paradise city
Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty
Oh, won't you please take me home

So far away, so far away, so far away, so far away

Captain America's been torn apart
Now he's a court jester with a broken heart
He said turn me around and take me back to the start
I must be losin' my mind- "Are you blind?"
I've seen it all a million times

Take me down to the paradise city
Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty
Take me home

Take me down to the paradise city
Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty
Oh, won't you please take me home

Take me down to the paradise city
Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty
Take me home

Take me down to the paradise city
Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty
Oh, won't you please take me home

Oh I wanna go, I wanna go, oh won't you please take me home
Oh won't you please take me home

Take me down to the paradise city
Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty
Take me home

Oh, won't you please take me home

Overall Meaning

"Paradise City" is a classic rock song by Slash that talks about a rock star's life struggle with fame and riches. The lyrics depict an individual who is born poor and raised on the streets, finding refuge in music to escape reality. The fascination of living a luxurious life in a paradise city where the grass is green and the girls are pretty now dominates the singer's mind. The singer pleads with someone to take him down to the paradise city and show him a life of fortune and fame.

The lyrics reveal how challenging it can be to achieve success as an artist, and once attained, the struggles that come with the fame that domination of media can bring. The last verse serves as a call to Arms for resistance against Capitalism. In the end, the chaos, misery and social injustice of a capitalist society may drive one to question the very notions of success and paradise that people are told to aspire to in life.

No better, no worst...just another point of view. I love it!

@btf_flotsam478

Generally, that's a good remix: with most songs like this, beating the original in what it does i nigh-impossible (that's why it's a good song in the first place), but a different take can use the good stuff to make it good.

@darienhockley2084

Agreed

@Mistab784

Love the bass groove. Love Cypress Hill. A different female singer would have made it a slam dunk for me. She's not bad, I just know there could have been better.

@billyaltavator5425

Fergie has a amasing voice and imo should sing more hard rock songs. She has a amasing rock voice.

@dharshdanube6911

Yeah but she would make more money in pop than rock since rock/metal era is done for the last two decades

@brouwer9663

there is, fergie beautiful dangerous

@bennybonez

This is amazing. Fergie is absolutley amazing. The whole thing is AMAZING!

@thesausage351

Without a word of a lie, and as someone who lists Appetite as one of the best albums of all time, I fucking love this. More than the original. I love how heavy it is, Cypress do it awesome, and Slash still has a bluesy kind of solo in it, harmonies are wicked, one of the best songs I’ve heard and I only heard it a few weeks ago! I missed out for so long.

@nahiyanalamgir7056

It sounds a bit heavy because of the mixing. Other than that's it's nothing more than a pop-rap remix of the song.
