Burnin' Bridges
Slaughter Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Prissy prissy
Don't you call me
If you miss me
Gotta leave you
And get on with my life
Shootin' everybody down
Thinkin' you're so profound
Ya never listen
To no one's advice
You're a liar liar liar
With your pants on fire
Always going back
On your word
Over here over there
Do ya really care
Playin games
Like I never heard

If I knew then
What I know now
I'd tell you that the stories are true
Cause what ever you do
It comes back to you
Right back to you babe, I'll tell ya

Burnin' bridges fallin' down
Got a nasty reputation
From town to town
Burnin' bridges fallin' down
Burnin' bridges fallin' down on you

Mirror mirror on the wall
It always tells you
That you are the best of all

Maybe you're too blind to see
That you're heading for a fall

Overall Meaning

In Slaughter's Burnin' Bridges, the singer seems to be addressing a person they used to be involved with, who is now trying to get back in touch. The singer starts off by calling this person "prissy" and telling them not to try to call them. It seems that the relationship ended badly, and the singer is ready to move on with their life. The person they are addressing is described as a liar who goes back on their word and never listens to advice. The singer also accuses this person of playing games, and suggests that they don't really care about others.

The chorus of the song features the repeated phrase "Burnin' bridges fallin' down." This seems to refer to the idea of cutting ties with someone, or severing a relationship completely. The singer suggests that the person they are addressing has a "nasty reputation" that follows them from town to town, and that they are headed for a fall.

The final lines of the song are directed at a "mirror on the wall" that always tells the person in question that they are "the best of all." The singer seems to suggest that this person is too blinded by their own ego to see the damage they are doing to themselves and others.

Oh hell yeah. Mobile audio, we used Focal speakers in the 4 doors, 3, 10 inch, dual voice coil JL Audio subs, 2 Eclipse amplifiers and an Alpine head unit. I tell you what, if you're wanting crystal clear and outrageous volumes, Focal speakers are a must. Yeah you can spend $1600.00 - $7000.00 for 2 doors, but holy crap, they are truly amazing. We were pushing around 1300 watts, but shit it was a beautiful sound. Make your inner ear hairs cringe just a lil bit.

Still have this album but on CD now as opposed to Cassette.  lolz...  My daughter, who is grown now grew up listening to a lot of Slaughter, Whitesnake, AC/DC, etc. and thank GOD she is like her mama... TOTAL HEADBANGER!  Sure wish I could convince her to pick up the drums like her ol' mom but...  at least she appreciates many genre's of music.  Long live Rock and Roll!

When my kids were little. They had their share of mom's music. At an early age they knew the difference between Bon Scott and Brian Johnson.

This song was originally written for Vinnie Vincent Invasion's third album, and was about Mark's ex. But everyone in the band finally grew tired of Vinnie's crap and abandoned his project. Mark took this song with him and rewrote it to be about Vinnie.

A cool song! really dig the Angus Young style "bagpipe" picking solo in the middle, thats a nice touch! ⚡
