Disconnected
Sleep On It Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I feel so disconnected
From everybody but myself
I feel so disconnected
Can you remember the way that it felt?

I've had enough
I've had enough of the weight
That's been dragging me down and clouding up my brain
I have enough
I have enough time to waste
And leave it all behind

So take what you want from me
Alone I've waited months for the summers rain
I've been giving the best of me
So cut me down and take what you want
Take what you want from me

So take me back to the days
Where we'd scream out names
Where we'd fill our lungs
With unimportant things

I've had enough
I've had enough of the nights
And all the things you say

That lead to loveless days
What you say leads to loveless days

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Sleep On It's song "Disconnected" convey a sense of feeling detached from others, while still maintaining a strong connection with oneself. The opening lines, "I feel so disconnected, from everybody but myself," reveal a profound sense of isolation, where the singer feels distant and separate from those around them. This feeling of disconnection reinforces a sense of introspection, as they find solace and understanding within themselves.

As the song continues, the lyrics ask if the other person can remember the way it felt when they were connected. This line suggests a longing for a lost connection, a desire to recapture the emotions and closeness that once existed between two people. However, the following lines express frustration and weariness towards the weight that has been burdening the singer. They have had enough of carrying this weight, as it has clouded their mind and impeded their happiness.

The chorus expresses a plea for the other person to take whatever they want from the singer. This surrendering of oneself implies a willingness to let go and move on from the disconnect that exists. The mention of waiting months for the summer rain implies an extended period of anticipation, a prolonged struggle to find resolution or reconnection. The ending lines of the chorus, "So cut me down and take what you want, take what you want from me," exhibit a willingness to sacrifice and let go, emphasizing the singer's desperation to resolve the disconnection.

The second verse takes a nostalgic turn, longing for the days when they would scream out names and fill their lungs with unimportant things. These lines are reminiscent of carefree and energetic moments, where trivial matters held significance. It serves as a contrast to the present state of disconnection, yearning for a return to the simplicity and joy of the past.

In the final lines of the lyrics, the singer acknowledges their dissatisfaction with the nights and the things the other person says. These words lead to loveless days, suggesting that the disconnect between the two has resulted in a lack of emotional fulfillment. It implies that the communication and actions between them have led to a deterioration of their relationship.

Overall, "Disconnected" explores the internal struggle of feeling disconnected from others while searching for ways to reconnect and find contentment. It touches upon themes of introspection, longing for lost connection, sacrifice, and the impact of words and actions on a relationship.

Saw them for the first time yesterday in concert and theyre so great. Amazing stage presence strong vocals and they genuinely love what they do. They were the only band to come out and meet everyone after the concert. They said that they wanted fo create a safe space and they did.
