While some subsequent Sleep Station albums have been recorded with a full band (After the War, The Pride of Chester James), others have essentially been David Debiak solo albums (Von Cosel, The Blood of Our Our Fathers), featuring very little, if any, instrumentation other than David Debiak's own guitar playing.
Sleep Station is known for its concept albums; to date, all Sleep Station releases have called "rock operas" by some critics. David Debiak himself, however, has stated that he is not trying to tell a story in his songs, stating in a MySpace bulletin "Every record I have done as Sleep Station has been thematic in its nature, not trying to tell a story but just create a mood". Unconventional love affairs and war are common lyrical themes in Sleep Station's music.
Following the release of the album After the War in 2004, Sleep Station went on hiatus, with David Debiak starting a side project, New London Fire, with his brother Jason Debiak.
In 2008, Sleep Station returned from hiatus with the album The Pride of Chester James, an album about a fictional circus drifter who shows up in a small town.

Twisted and turned that way
I have your home
Keep it inside this way everyday I rise
I had hoped to have you home
But instead I live all alone
Counting on dreams that never came
Time never comes
It is I would pass through blind
Into the wind
Where you lift me up again
I had hoped to have you home
But instead I live all alone
Counting on your face to arrive
Hoping you'd make it home alive
Evening changes
Voices so strange inside our home
I have stayed inside all alone
Time has never felt this long
But it doesn't mean you're gone
Waiting here for you to arrive
I had hoped to have you home
But instead I live all alone
Counting on dreams that never came
So I will sleep again today
The song "Waiting" by Sleep Station is about waiting for a loved one to come home. The lyrics are full of a sense of longing and desperation as the singer waits for the return of their loved one. The song begins with the line "This way it goes, twisted and turned that way, I have your home, keep it inside this way everyday I rise." This could be interpreted as the singer saying that they have their loved one's home inside of them and that they carry it with them every day, even as they wait for them to return.
Throughout the song, the singer talks about how they have hoped for the return of their loved one, but instead they are left alone, "counting on dreams that never came." They are waiting for their loved one to arrive, but as time passes, the waiting feels longer and harder to bear. However, the singer still holds onto hope, believing that their loved one will eventually come home alive.
The song ends on a poignant note, with the singer still waiting for their loved one to arrive, but resigned to the fact that they will have to sleep again today. Overall, the song captures the feeling of waiting for someone you love and the hope and despair that comes with it.
