The Prophet
Slightly Stoopid Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I never thought too much on wealth
To let me keep it for myself,
But while the world's been turning upside-down
It's hard to talk about.
Another bottle off the shelf
With the hand that you've been dealt.
What's going wrong's been going on
It's time for you to scream and shout.

And I ain't no prophet
To cure some damn disease.
And would you help me anyway
If I was on my knees?
I'm going through my time of change
In my time of need,
And every little thing is gonna
Be all the same.

I never thought too much on wealth
To let me keep it for myself,
But while the world's been turning upside-down
It's hard to talk about.
Another bottle off the shelf
With the hand that you've been dealt.
What's going wrong's been going on
It's time for you to scream and shout.

I went to that corner store
To get myself a bottle of beer.
I was rollin with a friend of mine
When the liquor was a little more clear.
I always knew what I wanted from the start
Was a reason just to get out late.
Drinkin early was a dream for the summertime,
Music, and my seed, Mary Jane.

I never thought too much on wealth
To let me keep it for myself,
But while the world's been turning upside-down
It's hard to talk about.

I never thought too much on wealth
To let me keep it for myself,
But while the world's been turning upside-down
It's hard to talk about.
Another bottle off the shelf
With the hand that you've been dealt.
What's going wrong's been going on
It's time for you to scream and shout.

What's going wrong's been going on
It's time for you to scream and shout.

It's time for you to scream and shout.
It's time for you to scream and shout.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Slightly Stoopid's song "Prophet" express a sense of frustration with the state of the world and a desire for change. The singer acknowledges that they never cared much about wealth, and instead of keeping it for themselves, they want to address the problems they see around them. However, they also recognize that talking about these issues is difficult when the world seems to be turning "upside-down." The singer turns to alcohol as a means of coping, but they seem to be longing for something more meaningful, perhaps a reason to stay up late and enjoy life with friends and loved ones.

The chorus of the song further emphasizes the singer's feeling of helplessness. They acknowledge that they are not a "prophet" who can solve society's problems and wonders if anyone would even help them if they were in need. Despite this, the singer seems to be going through a significant change in their life and is seeking some kind of guidance or support. They may feel overwhelmed by the world's problems but are determined to persevere, even if it means screaming and shouting their frustrations.

If Bradley were alive today he would be proud of slightly stoopid and be proud of how far they have come as a band. The music SS continues to make and the vibes they bring along with that music is something to cherish always!

Mad Flavor Disciple

Christopher Hendrix I feel like a tool, I had never heard these Cats but I felt a Sublime (baddish)/ Long Beach Dub Allstar vibe... What is the connection.

Steven Stevens Bradley signed slightly stoopid to his record I believe it was skunk records. If I am wrong someone can correct me. But yeah I guess Bradley knowell was kind if there mentor in some way. Anyways slightly stoopid got there start into the music biz because of him.

Steven Stevens oh and I think the prophet was originally sublimes song. They have like an older live version of the prophet. And slightly stoopid has an acoustic live version of this song as well.

Aaron Schiff

+Christopher Hendrix nah it was Slightly track, Brad just really dug it so Sublime made a cover but its really awesome because Bradley actually played bass on the original Stoopid version of this song!
