Requiem
Slik Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Amen, Amen.
It's over
We've come to the end now
Over
I'm sorry to see love die.
It's over
Let's try to stay friends now
Over
We just couldn't live a lie.

For the promises that we would stay together
Requiem
We were living in a world of never
Never
Nothing
Nothing is for ever
This is a Requiem. Requiem
Requiem.

This is in memory of a million chances
Baby we've had our share.
This could have been one of the great romances
Not just a mad affair.
I still have my souvenirs of special places
And I'll remember them.
But our game is over and we've played our aces
This is a wreck, oh what a wreck, this a Requiem.
Amen.

It's over
And there's nothing to say now
Over
The magic is finally gone.
It's over
There's no other way now
Over
It just can't go on and on.

Now the time has really come to give up trying
Requiem
And to finish with the cheating and the lying
It's doomed
It's damned
It's dying

This is a Requiem, Requiem, Requiem.
This is in memory of a million chances

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Slik's "Requiem" talk about the end of a romantic relationship. The song expresses emotions of sadness, regret, and acceptance of the breakup. With the repetitive use of the term "Requiem," the song evokes symbolic and emotional overtones of mourning and remembrance, rendering a beautifully elegiac tone to mourn the demise of the relationship. The lyrics embrace the idea that sometimes things simply don't work out and there comes a point where we have to let go.

The lyrics go on to reflect frustration with the situation, acknowledging that nothing lasts forever, and there's no point living in a world of never. The singer contemplates their love, however short-lived it may have been and how it could have been one of the great romances. Still, in the end, it was not meant to be, commemorating the past experience and then bidding it a final farewell.

Overall, "Requiem" is an emotionally charged song about the end of a relationship, accepting its end while simultaneously mourning it. It is a cathartic song that helps listeners deal with the pain of the death of a romantic relationship.

Just got curious about this one after playing FOREVER AND EVER elsewhere and yes, I remember this one now from my youth. They weren't THAT bad were they, you could really tell that MIDGE URE had some talent and would soon find himself fronting one of the best bands of the 80s.

Wandern mit Herz

I loved to listen to this song in my youth. Nice to find it here again 😊

James Marinaccio

this was one of a handful of songs/groups I loved when I very briefly lived in England and when I returned to the US found out no one ever heard of (John Miles, Status Quo being other examples) I bet there is a bunch of other good "never made it to the US" british rock music.
