My Girl
Slim Smith Lyrics

When it's cold outside I've got the month of May
I guess you'd say
What can make me feel this way?
My girl (my girl, my girl)
Talkin' 'bout my girl (my girl)
I've got so much honey the bees envy me
I guess you'd say
What can make me feel this way?
My girl (my girl, my girl)
Talkin' 'bout my girl (my girl)
Hey hey hey
Hey hey hey
Ooh
I don't need no money, fortune, or fame
I've got all the riches baby one man can claim
I guess you'd say
What can make me feel this way?
My girl (my girl, my girl)
Talkin' 'bout my girl (my girl)
I've got sunshine on a cloudy day
With my girl
I've even got the month of May
With my girl
The song My Girl by Slim Smith is a classic soul number that is all about love and how it can make you feel. It starts with the powerful line "I've got sunshine on a cloudy day" which is a metaphor for the happiness that the singer gets from his love. The reference to the month of May further portrays the warmth and brightness that this person brings in his life. The singer then wonders what could make him feel this way, and the answer is his girl. The repetition of "my girl" emphasizes the significance of this person in his life.
The second verse compares the singer's happy state to that of a bee with honey and birds with their sweet song. The singer then admits that he does not need money, fortune, or fame as he has all the riches one man can claim in his love. The song ends on a happy note with the singer saying that he has sunshine even on a cloudy day, with his girl. The song has a simple and catchy melody that is easy to sing along with, making it a classic sing-along tune.

Bought this in 1972. Was a bit embarrassed by the sleeve , had to bring it in the house in the carrier bag , didn’t want my mum to see cover. Anyway great album and great sleeve. Used to knock one out on the odd occasion while looking at the sleeve.
