J'ai trop d'mal à dormir
Dis-moi qu'il n'est pas trop tard
Que le meilleur vient après l'pire
Que dans les années 80
On savait faire la fête
Qu'on n'avait peur de rien
Slimane's song "Ainsi va la vie" portrays a father's message to his son, telling him a story that is hard to forget, so he could get some sleep. He hopes to assure his son that it is never too late to turn his life around, and that happiness comes after hardship. The father reminiscences about the carefree 80s and the joyous parties, where nobody was afraid of anything, not even an exploding bomb. The chorus phrase 'Ainsi va la vie,' which means 'Thus goes life,' emphasizes the unpredictable and ever-changing nature of life. The father warns his son that time flies and to use every single moment of it wisely.
The song talks about a fantastic past that the father never got to experience, leaving him nostalgic. He tells his son that one should laugh until one drops, even if it means getting hurt, just as his grandmother taught him. The repetition of "Tête à tête, talala," represents life's rhythm and shows how quickly time passes.
The lyrics of the song are relatable, as everyone has experienced a time where they were nostalgic for something they never got to experience. Slimane's catchy melody and vivid descriptive language make the message more powerful, and the song is a reminder to live life to the fullest.
