SELF CONTROL
Slimmy Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I tried to call you
And I've collapsed between my self esteem and being a fool
I tried to write you
Born dead letters from a guy who can't heal his soul
Let me deny you
Before I'm judged or crucified for what I haven't stole

And I need someone like you
If anybody sees the way I lose my self control
And Its rock'n roll (2x)

I'm here to adore you,
I've committed all my mistakes when I was steaming
Didn't want to ignore you
Saints and sinners one day, both will be forgiven
I would say, I have been thinking of you
If I stay I'm wrapped, regretted if I go away
Then it all comes down
In one moment of pure and gentle decay
It shuffles away

If anybody sees the way I lose myself control
And It's rock'n'roll
(2x)

Hang on I'm really sure my job aint done,
Come on I know u miss my click track tongue,
You got hopes similar to my old dreams,
I can't find it anywhere but only here,
I will move on because I wanna score
I got ambitions to always be back for more
Those dreams are bigger than what it seems
I can find it everywhere but not here, not here (2x)

And I need someone like you

If anybody sees the way I lose my self control
It's rock'n'roll

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Slimmy’s song “Self Control” reflect the challenges and struggles of a guy trying to forget someone he still loves. The song begins with the singer admitting that he tried to contact the person he’s trying to forget but failed due to his low self-esteem and fear of being called a fool. He attempted to write letters to this person but he failed to send them because his soul remains unhealed from his past mistakes.

The singer then acknowledges that he needs someone like his old love because he can’t seem to control himself, and he feels like he’s spiraling. He attempts to shift the blame to rock and roll, hinting that this is the source of all his problems. The singer then confesses to this old lover that he’s committed all his past mistakes while ignoring her. He asks her to stay, and if she can’t stick with him through his failures, he’ll leave.

The chorus repeats, stressing the singer’s desire for someone who sees how he loses control, hinting that rock and roll has something to do with this. The last verse finds the singer wanting to move forward and start anew but seems stuck in his old dreams. His life goals now appear out of reach, and he can’t seem to find them anywhere. The lyrics suggest that the singer is angry with himself and wants to move on from the past. Still, he’s having a hard time reconciling his own faults and failings.
